This role combines hands-on product development with product support, ensuring that systems meet engineering standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements, while supporting a growing manufacturing operation.
Responsibilities
Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine the feasibility of designs and applications.
Design mechanical heat transfer systems, including chilled water systems, air- and water-cooled refrigerant systems, and fluid pumping systems, in accordance with engineering design standards and customer specifications.
Develop complete engineering documentation such as bills of materials, piping drawings, sheet metal drawings, assembly drawings, installation drawings, and refrigeration drawings.
Perform basic structural, load, and heat transfer analyses and calculations to support design decisions.
Review products to confirm they are manufactured in accordance with NEC, internal listing reports, and other applicable industry standards.
Support the development of marketing materials for sales literature and custom applications by providing technical input and product information.
Evaluate field installations, diagnose system issues, and recommend design modifications to mitigate malfunctions and improve performance.
Prepare and provide operation, maintenance, and repair documentation to support products in the field.
Create and maintain documentation and technical support materials to ensure operational testing conforms to functional specifications, customer requirements, and regulatory requirements.
Assist test facilities with the design of control apparatus, test equipment, and test methods to validate product performance.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in engineering, manufacturing, and operations to ensure designs are suitable for fabrication and assembly.

Essential Skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze complex technical information and make sound engineering decisions.
Clear and concise communication skills, both verbal and electronic, for documentation and cross-team coordination.
Demonstrated experience in design for manufacturing, including understanding of common materials and manufacturing methods.
Knowledge of psychrometrics as it pertains to HVAC systems.
Experience with component selection, including valves, fans, pumps, motors, and related mechanical components.
Strong understanding of thermodynamics within HVAC systems and heat transfer principles.
Proficiency with 3D design tools, with SolidWorks strongly preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
3-5 years of experience performing mechanical engineering support on-site within a component or product manufacturing environment.
Experience working with electromechanical products and components.
Experience in sheet metal design and fabrication-oriented mechanical design.
Experience applying design for manufacturability principles in a production environment, typically 3-5+ years.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
HVAC, liquid cooling, or refrigeration/heating equipment is preferred.
Experience with development and design of electromechanical components and systems.
Familiarity with P&ID (piping and instrumentation diagram) concepts and documentation.
Experience in a fabrication or assembly-based manufacturing environment.
Ability to contribute to marketing and sales support through technical input and product knowledge.
Comfort working in a growing organization with expanding production lines and facilities, and an interest in internal growth opportunities.
Work Environment
This role is based in a manufacturing and assembly environment that focuses on the production of commercial HVAC and related electromechanical equipment. The engineer works closely with fabrication and assembly operations, interacting with production lines, test facilities, and shop floor personnel. The environment involves regular use of 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks and standard office software, combined with on-site presence in a fabrication setting.
