Job Title: Advanced Practice Provider - Intensive Care Unit
Job Description
This role provides advanced clinical care to critically ill patients in a closed Intensive Care Unit. The advanced practice provider performs comprehensive assessments, manages acute and chronic medical conditions, and collaborates closely with attending physicians and consulting teams. The position includes direct bedside care, management of ventilated patients and complex critical illnesses, and active participation in all aspects of ICU operations, including admissions, daily management, and discharges. The role requires strong clinical judgment, procedural competence, and the ability to work independently during night shifts while contributing to a highly collaborative care team.
Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations for critically ill ICU patients.
Assess, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions in collaboration with attending physicians and consulting teams.
Develop, implement, and revise individualized treatment plans based on patient condition, diagnostic findings, and evidence-based practice.
Monitor patient progress, interpret clinical data, and respond promptly and appropriately to changes in condition.
Manage ventilated patients and support care of patients with respiratory failure, sepsis, shock, multi-organ dysfunction, and other critical illnesses in a closed ICU setting.
Order, interpret, and act upon laboratory tests, radiology studies, and other diagnostic results.
Initiate and manage medications, infusions, and other therapeutic interventions in accordance with scope of practice, hospital policy, and supervising or collaborative physician agreements.
Participate in ICU admissions, daily rounding and management, consultations, transfers within the hospital, and patient discharges as needed.
Perform and manage critical care procedures including central venous catheter placement, arterial line insertion, and endotracheal intubation.
Collaborate closely with a seasoned nursing team and other multidisciplinary staff to ensure safe, coordinated, and patient-centered care.
Communicate clearly with consulting teams and ancillary services to support comprehensive inpatient care.
Recognize and respond to coding situations, coordinating with in-house anesthesia support as appropriate.
Document all patient encounters and interventions accurately and efficiently in the electronic medical record.
Contribute to a culture of autonomy, mutual respect, and continuous improvement within the ICU.

Essential Skills Needed & Qualifications
Current advanced practice provider license (such as Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) valid in the state of Massachusetts.
Demonstrated ICU experience caring for critically ill patients in an inpatient, bedside environment.
Proficiency in managing ventilated patients and conditions such as sepsis, respiratory failure, shock, and multi-organ dysfunction.
Competence in performing central venous line placement, arterial line placement, and endotracheal intubations.
Ability to order, interpret, and act on laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic test results.
Skill in initiating and managing medications, infusions, and other critical care therapeutic interventions within defined scope of practice.
Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills under pressure.
Proficiency with electronic medical records for documentation and clinical workflows.
Effective communication and collaboration skills with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary team members.
Ability to function autonomously while adhering to hospital policies and collaborative practice agreements.
BSN/MSN in Nursing or graduation from PA school
Active License in the state of Massachusetts
Work Environment
Ability to work night shifts from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. in a high-acuity ICU setting

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $140000.00 - $180000.00/yr.
