Description
Lee County's Department of Transportation, Tolls Division, is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented candidate to join our team. This position is responsible for reviewing and processing license plate images and assisting Pay-by-Plate customers and LeeWay account holders. The ideal candidate is conscientious, proficient with technology, comfortable handling incoming calls, and committed to delivering excellent customer service.
Duties and Responsibilities
What You Will Do
(All duties below are required as part of this position)
Image Review & Toll Processing
Review vehicle license plate images collected from Toll Plaza cameras
Accurately enter plate details from all U.S. states and Canadian Provinces (letters, numbers, state, plate @type) into specialized software
Mark unreadable images using system codes.
Report image issues or patterns to a supervisor.
Research transactions to identify vehicle owners.
Responsible for meeting output standards established by Tolls Management
Customer Service
Handle a high-volume of inbound customer calls using a multi-line phone system.
Update and manage customer accounts, process applications, and renewals for Leeway transponders.
Process Pay-by-Plate transaction payments, and assist with customer inquiries and complaints
Explain Leeway discount programs, account options, and toll enforcement policies.
General Duties
Maintain data accuracy while using specialized toll systems (e.g., ARCS, VES, MIRA).
Handle confidential customer information with discretion
Complete other duties as assigned
Education, Experience, Licensing
What We're Looking For
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to:
High school diploma or GED.
One year of experience in a fast-paced professional environment, providing accurate data entry and high-quality customer service
Skills and Knowledge:
Strong attention to detail with ability to maintain accuracy in a high-volume data entry environment.
Proficient in data entry, word processing, and computer systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows systems.
Able to @type efficiently and use computer systems for extended periods.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and multitasking skills.
Ability to remain calm and courteous with upset or confused customers.
Comfortable researching information using internal systems and DMV tools.
Must maintain confidentiality with sensitive customer data.
Preferred / Ideal Candidate Background
The ideal candidate will have prior experience in roles that combine high-volume data entry, customer service, and computer-based processing within fast-paced environments.
Relevant experience may include:
Call center or other high-volume customer contact roles
Administrative or clerical support positions
Data entry or records processing roles requiring accuracy and efficiency
Banking, payment processing, or billing support functions
Government agency experience (e.g., DMV, tax collector offices)
Collections or claims processing environments
Valid driver's license with a good record.
Supplemental Information
Work Schedule:
Full-time: 40 hours per week
Monday-Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM
Some weekend work may be needed during busy times

About the Department
The Lee County Department of Transportation (DOT) is responsible for maintaining and operating the county's transportation infrastructure to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable travel for residents and visitors. Within DOT, the Toll Operations team supports the county's toll facilities by managing electronic toll collection systems, reviewing toll transactions, and providing customer service for Pay-by-Plate users and LeeWay account holders.
