This Senior Sales Manager role focuses on supporting and expanding the Magnetics Division in the Detroit, MI region. The position is ideal for a seasoned technical sales leader with deep knowledge of electric motors, magnetic materials, and their applications, particularly within automotive, electrification, and industrial manufacturing markets. You will drive new business development, lead strategic account growth, and serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers while partnering closely with global engineering and commercial teams.
Responsibilities
Own and grow strategic accounts within the automotive, electric vehicle, and industrial sectors, with a strong focus on long-term revenue expansion and market penetration.
Develop and execute multi-year account strategies, including business planning, forecasting, and portfolio growth plans tailored to key customers.
Serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers by translating complex magnetic material capabilities into practical, application-focused solutions.
Lead high-level customer engagements, including executive meetings, contract negotiations, and technical discussions with engineering and procurement stakeholders.
Identify, qualify, and drive new business opportunities in permanent magnet electric motors and their applications across automotive, EV, robotics, and industrial markets.
Partner closely with engineering and R&D teams to align product development with customer requirements and emerging market trends in electrification and advanced materials.
Coordinate with global teams, including international subsidiaries, to ensure alignment on product strategy, pricing, delivery, and overall customer support.
Analyze market dynamics such as competitor activities, technology shifts, and customer roadmaps to inform strategic business decisions and account plans.
Oversee forecasting accuracy, sales pipeline development, and CRM management, leveraging tools such as HubSpot to track opportunities and performance.
Support resolution of complex customer issues related to quality, performance, and delivery, acting as the escalation point to ensure timely and effective solutions.
Represent the organization at industry events, trade shows, and customer sites to promote magnetic material solutions and strengthen market presence.
Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams, including sales operations and customer service, to ensure a high-quality customer experience and consistent execution.
Prepare and deliver reports, presentations, and updates on account performance, sales activities, and market developments to internal stakeholders.
Essential Skills
Strong understanding of magnetic materials, such as neodymium and ferrite, and their applications in electric motors and related systems.
Knowledge of automotive electrification, EV systems, robotics, and motor design principles, with the ability to connect technical concepts to customer needs.
Proven ability to engage in high-level technical discussions with engineers, procurement teams, and executive stakeholders.
Demonstrated success managing large, complex, multi-million-dollar accounts with a focus on long-term growth and strategic partnerships.
Strong business acumen, including experience with ROI analysis, forecasting, and product lifecycle management.
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, including a confident executive-level presence.
Ability to lead cross-functional teams and operate effectively in a global, matrixed organization.
Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, strategic mindset and the ability to anticipate and address customer and market needs.
Proficiency with CRM tools (HubSpot preferred) for managing pipelines, forecasting, and customer information.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for reporting, analysis, and sales operations support.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Business, or a related field.
At least 10 years of experience in technical sales, account management, or business development.
Experience supporting automotive OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, or industrial manufacturing customers.
Demonstrated ability to close complex, high-value deals and drive long-term customer partnerships.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Master's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Business, or a related discipline is preferred.
Proven experience within magnetic materials, advanced materials, or closely related industrial sectors.
Background in automotive environments, with Tier 1 supplier experience considered ideal.
Experience working in a cross-cultural and global environment, collaborating with international teams and customers.
Hands-on experience with full sales cycles, from prospecting and qualification through contract negotiation and closing.
Experience in customer service and sales operations, including reporting and process optimization.
Ability to build and maintain long-term strategic relationships with key decision-makers in automotive, EV, and industrial markets.
Work Environment
This position is based in the Metro Detroit area and follows a hybrid work schedule, with an ideal expectation of approximately two days per week onsite in the Farmington Hills office, adjusted as needed around travel commitments. Travel may be required up to 40% of the year to visit customers, attend industry events, and collaborate with global teams. The role involves regular interaction with engineering, R&D, and international colleagues, providing exposure to advanced magnetic materials technologies and electrification applications. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $125000.00 - $135000.00/yr.
