Job Title: Registered Nurse - Medical Review Nurse (Cardiology)
Job Description
This role offers an opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join a fast-paced, family-oriented cardiology practice as a Medical Review Nurse. You will focus on auditing clinical data, coordinating follow-up with patients, and supporting cardiology providers by managing results communication through electronic health records and telephone outreach.
Responsibilities
Audit and review medical and lab data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and clinical relevance.
Collect, organize, and manage lab data and diagnostic information within the electronic health record system.
Communicate test results and follow-up information to patients via electronic chart messaging and telephone, ensuring clarity and professionalism, while providers deliver actual diagnoses.
Provide clear follow-up steps and care instructions as directed by providers and established protocols.
Conduct advanced telephone triage functions, assessing patient concerns and directing them to appropriate care or escalation pathways.
Act as a liaison between patients, families, and healthcare professionals to support coordinated, patient-centered care.
Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation for all patient interactions and clinical activities.
Monitor inventory levels, order clinical supplies, and ensure availability of necessary materials for daily operations.
Perform quality assurance functions as directed, contributing to continuous improvement of clinical processes and patient care standards.
Assist with the orientation, training, and mentoring of new personnel and clinical staff to promote professional growth and consistent practice.
Delegate duties and tasks appropriately to team members, ensuring safe and efficient workflow.
Support cardiology-related procedures and testing, such as stress testing and EKG, in alignment with scope of practice and training.
Essential Skills
Current Connecticut Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification by the American Heart Association.
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification by the American Heart Association.
At least 1 year of nursing experience, with openness to entry-level candidates who demonstrate strong potential.
Strong cardiology background or experience, particularly in outpatient or specialty cardiology settings.
Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation, data review, and patient communication.
Experience with stress testing and EKG procedures or monitoring in a clinical environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for patient interaction and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Strong work ethic with a mature, independent, and self-directed approach to daily responsibilities.
Demonstrated ability to complete documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
Ability to perform telephone triage, including assessing patient needs and determining appropriate next steps.
Capability to act as a liaison between patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in cardiology practices or specialty clinics is a strong plus.
background or exposure to medical assisting, patient care, triage, or related clinical support functions.
Familiarity with CMA, RMA, or similar clinical workflows, even if not certified in those roles.
Ability to mentor and encourage team members, supporting their professional development and growth.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in managing lab data, records, and follow-up tasks.
Comfort working in a high-volume environment while maintaining compassionate, patient-centered care.
Proven ability to delegate tasks appropriately within a clinical team.
Interest in participating in research activities when needed, including data collection and coordination.
Willingness to travel occasionally to other practice locations such as Middletown or Cheshire.
Work Environment
The position is based primarily in a fast-paced cardiology office in the Glastonbury/Hartford area, with the potential to float to other locations, including Middletown and Cheshire, as needed. The practice is described as family oriented, fostering a supportive and collaborative culture, while also being very busy at times due to high patient volume and a broad range of cardiology services. You will work between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with schedule details determined by practice needs. The clinical environment uses electronic health record systems extensively for documentation, data review, and patient communication. You will work closely with cardiologists, nurses, and other clinical staff, often supporting procedures such as stress testing and EKG. The setting emphasizes teamwork, professional growth, and maintaining high standards of quality and patient care in a dynamic outpatient cardiology practice.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wallingford, CT.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $48.00/hr.
