Job Title: Information System Security Engineer
Job Description
The Information System Security Engineer works within a customer environment to establish and maintain system-wide information security requirements across government and commercial systems. This role supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of cybersecurity policies and engineering solutions, with a focus on mission-critical defense programs. The position plays a key role in supporting Risk Management Framework (RMF) activities, ensuring compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) security requirements, and contributing to enterprise-level cybersecurity initiatives.
Responsibilities
Establish and maintain system-wide information security requirements for government and commercial information systems.
Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of cybersecurity policies and engineering solutions.
Lead and support Risk Management Framework (RMF) activities, including documentation, assessments, and continuous monitoring.
Evaluate cybersecurity safeguards and security controls to ensure they meet applicable DoD and organizational security requirements.
Ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements, including DoD 8570 and AR 25-2, and other relevant security policies.
Identify cybersecurity risks, assess their impact, and develop risk mitigation strategies and plans.
Support security governance processes by contributing to security policies, standards, and procedures.
Assist with acquisition and procurement efforts to ensure alignment with information security standards and supply chain security expectations.
Support Army and DoD programs by providing information system security engineering expertise and guidance.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of system lifecycle documentation, including concepts of operations (CONOPS), standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training materials.
Collaborate with customer and stakeholder teams in a customer-facing environment to address security requirements and resolve cybersecurity issues.
Support enterprise-level cybersecurity initiatives and help address complex security engineering challenges in mission-critical defense programs.
Essential Skills
Extensive knowledge of the Risk Management Framework (RMF), including RMF processes, controls, and documentation.
Strong experience in information systems security and cybersecurity, including security controls implementation and risk mitigation.
Demonstrated experience in Information System Security Engineering (ISSE) or Information System Security Officer (ISSO) roles.
Proven ability to identify cybersecurity risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
Experience ensuring cybersecurity compliance with DoD requirements, including DoD 8570 and AR 25-2.
Ability to support and document security governance processes and compliance activities.
Ability to obtain and maintain an Interim Secret clearance.
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Information Assurance, Engineering, or a related field.
8+ years of relevant experience in cybersecurity, information assurance, or information system security engineering.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to support documentation, stakeholder engagement, and customer-facing interactions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience supporting Army or other DoD programs.
Knowledge of supply chain risk and procurement security considerations.
Exposure to system lifecycle documentation such as concepts of operations (CONOPS), standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training materials.
Familiarity with enterprise-level cybersecurity initiatives and large-scale defense or mission-critical programs.
Ability to meet DoD 8570 certification requirements within 6 months of hire.
Experience working in customer-facing environments with government stakeholders.
Understanding of security governance processes and enterprise security architectures

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sterling Heights, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $62.00 - $72.12/hr.
