Job Title: Shipping Assistant
Job Description
The Shipping Assistant supports day-to-day shipping operations by resolving shipment issues, coordinating with internal and external partners, and ensuring accurate and timely processing of domestic and international freight. This role focuses on generating precise shipping documentation, managing carrier assignments, and overseeing customer-specific shipments while maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.
Responsibilities
Resolve shipping issues such as mis-shipments, shortages, damage, delivery problems, and freight charges in a timely and professional manner.
Handle incoming and outgoing calls related to product shipments, including communication with carriers, customer service, sales, operations, and other internal teams.
Evaluate and resolve aging orders that have not shipped to ensure on-time delivery and customer satisfaction.
Accurately generate shipping documents, including freight terms and commercial invoices, for domestic and international orders.
Generate pick tickets and assign carriers as required to minimize freight costs while meeting service requirements.
Investigate freight claims, determine appropriate disposition, and coordinate resolutions with relevant stakeholders.
Oversee the prompt completion of all customer-specific freight shipments and international orders in line with customer requirements.
Schedule carrier pickups to align with shipping schedules and warehouse operations.
Support warehouse activities related to shipping, receiving, inventory, and cycle counts as needed.
Operate or assist with equipment such as forklifts when required, following all safety procedures and training.
Use computer systems, including Oracle and Microsoft Office applications, to process shipments and maintain accurate records.
Comply with all plant safety policies, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), and promote a safe working environment.
Perform other duties as assigned to support shipping, warehouse, and inventory operations.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Ability to use computers effectively and learn new systems, including Oracle shipping or ERP systems.
Experience with shipping processes, including freight shipments and international orders.
Familiarity with warehouse operations such as inventory management, cycle counts, receiving, and pick ticket generation.
Ability to read, write, and comprehend the English language.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and data entry.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds periodically.
Ability to sit for prolonged periods, and to stand and walk intermittently throughout the day.
Ability to bend, push, pull, and kneel as required for shipping and warehouse activities.
Ability to work in weather extremes when needed.
Ability and willingness to wear all required PPE.
Ability to work hours beyond the scheduled shift during the week and to work weekends as required.
Ability to work independently in a self-directed manner as well as effectively within a team environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with freight shipments and international shipping processes is a plus.
Experience operating forklifts or other warehouse equipment is beneficial.
Comfort working on the warehouse floor and in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
Strong communication skills for interacting with carriers, customer service, sales, and operations teams.
Commitment to following plant safety policies and contributing to continuous improvement in shipping and manufacturing performance.
Interest in learning and growing within the company, including taking on additional responsibilities over time.

The role requires flexibility to work beyond scheduled shifts during the week and on weekends as needed. Employees spend time sitting at a workstation as well as standing, walking the warehouse floor, and performing physical tasks such as lifting up to 25 pounds, bending, pushing, pulling, and kneeling. Work may involve exposure to weather extremes when moving between areas or supporting shipping activities. All employees wear required PPE and follow plant safety policies. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $19.00/hr.
