Job Description
This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on designing custom equipment for the radiopharma and nuclear industries, including specialized glovebox and hot cell systems, shielding solutions, and remote handling equipment. You will contribute across the full project lifecycle, from conceptual design and 3D modeling to detailed calculations and direct interaction with customers. The position involves generating fabrication drawings from conceptual designs, supporting FEA/CFD analysis, and applying GD&T while working within relevant industry codes and standards such as ANSI, ASME, and ASTM.
Responsibilities
Design custom equipment such as specialized glovebox systems, hot cells, shielding components, and remote handling equipment for radiopharma and nuclear applications.
Develop conceptual designs and translate them into detailed 3D models and fabrication drawings.
Perform hands-on engineering calculations to support structural integrity, performance, and safety of custom equipment.
Support and interpret FEA and CFD analyses to validate designs and optimize performance.
Apply GD&T principles to ensure clear, precise, and manufacturable engineering drawings.
Incorporate and adhere to relevant industry codes and standards, including ANSI, ASME, and ASTM, throughout the design process.
Collaborate directly with customers to understand requirements, clarify specifications, and provide technical guidance during all project phases.
Work closely with fabrication teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and aligned with production capabilities.
Contribute to the development of a new division focused on radiopharma customers, helping to establish processes, standards, and best practices.
Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement efforts to enhance product quality, reliability, and safety.
Support HVAC and sheet metal design aspects as needed for containment, isolator, and negative pressure systems.
Use CAD tools such as Inventor and AutoCAD to create, revise, and maintain 3D models and detailed drawings.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
6+ years of experience designing custom equipment.
6+ years of experience applying GD&T in engineering drawings.
6+ years of experience with sheet metal design.
6+ years of experience supporting or performing FEA/CFD analysis.
Experience in mechanical design, including machine design and mechanical engineering principles.
Proficiency with 3D modeling tools such as Inventor.
Experience using AutoCAD for detailed design and drafting.
Working knowledge of ANSI, ASME, and ASTM codes and standards.
Ability to interpret and produce detailed fabrication drawings from conceptual designs.
Experience with HVAC-related design in the @context of containment or process systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience designing equipment for radiopharma, nuclear, pharmaceutical, biotech, chemical, or related highly regulated industries.
Familiarity with containment systems, isolators, aseptic processing isolators, glovebox systems, and negative pressure systems.
Ability to collaborate in a growing team environment and contribute to building a new division.
Strong communication skills for effective customer interaction and cross-functional collaboration.
Comfort working on a variety of project phases, from early concept through detailed design and support during fabrication.
Work Environment
You will initially work remotely while the organization finalizes leasing office space on the west side of the city. Once the new space is secured, you will follow a hybrid schedule, working onsite approximately 3-4 days per week. The company manufactures specialized equipment for pharmaceutical, biotech, radiopharma, chemical, and nuclear applications, including containment systems, isolators, aseptic processing isolators, glovebox systems, and negative pressure systems. You will join a newly formed division focused on radiopharma customers, working in a collaborative environment that emphasizes work-life balance. The position offers a generous time-off package, including three weeks of PTO, three personal days, and one sick week

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mauston, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.86 - $60.10/hr.
