Summary As Assistant Chief, the incumbent provides support to the Chief, Patient Business Service (PBS) in the management of the administrative programs within the service. During temporary absence of the Chief is responsible and accountable directly to the Medical Center Director and Associate Director for providing leadership in the formulation and operation of the service. Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to: Provides comprehensive program oversight and planning for Patient Business Service (PBS), supporting long- and short-range organizational goals and ensuring alignment with Medical Center needs. Analyzes and interprets workload and statistical data used for resource planning, maintaining monitoring systems for inpatient and outpatient data such as Gains and Losses, PCE reports, VSSC, and EHR outputs. Coordinates all PBS Systems Redesign projects, including identifying areas for improvement, advising staff, evaluating internal operations, and developing practical objectives that address deficiencies. Administers a broad range of administrative programs, including equal opportunity, merit promotion, labor-management relations, space and equipment planning, personnel management, and organizational efficiency. Coordinates all hiring and onboarding activities, maintains personnel records, and prepares personnel action documentation. Provides full technical and administrative supervision for assigned PBS staff. Engages in labor-management relations activities, representing management in meetings with union officials, resolving conflicts, responding to employee grievances, and ensuring management's adherence to negotiated agreements.
