Summary You will serve as an Interdisciplinary (Physical Scientist/Oceanographer/Data Scientist) in the Oceanographic Department of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS. Responsibilities You will serve as a Senior Scientist in the analysis of oceanographic data in support of oceanographic databases. You will provide guidance and direction to lower grade personnel in the operation of equipment/ software tools You will brief other scientists and senior Navy officials on the work accomplished. You will support the development of reporting scientific decisions, conclusions and analyses. You will perform other duties as assigned Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-12 In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Resume must demonstrate the following specialized experience: Experience analyzing complex physical oceanographic data, including temperature, salinity, sound speed, currents, and optics, while utilizing scientific programming software to develop comprehensive environmental products and technical reports. Experience conducting rigorous at-sea field operations that involve the direct collection and real-time quality control of oceanographic data. Experience operating a diverse array of scientific instrumentation, such as Conductivity, Temperature, and Depth profilers (CTDs), Expendable Bathythermographs (XBTs), Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs), and Moving Vessel Profilers (MVPs). Experience preparing and delivering high-level reports and briefings designed to communicate technical oceanographic findings effectively to both scientific peers and non-scientific stakeholders. Oceanography Series 1360 Basic Requirements: Degree: major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences. or Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Applicants who qualify on the basis of major study in biology or geology must have had at least 6 semester hours in the major directly concerned with marine science or 6 semester hours in oceanography; applicants who qualify on the basis of other physical sciences or engineering must have had differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours in physics. Data Science Series 1560 Basic Requirements: Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position.
