Position Summary
The Material Handler supports coil preparation and crating operations by safely moving, inspecting, and preparing coils and other customer products for processing and shipment. This role ensures materials are handled accurately and efficiently while maintaining a clean, organized, and safety-focused work environment.
This position reports directly to the Production Shift Supervisor and plays a critical role in supporting batch processing, monorail handling, and crating operations.
Key Responsibilities
Follow all published work instructions, quality procedures, and safety protocols at all times
Open and close crates or containers holding coils or other customer products using proper tools and techniques
Inspect coils for damage or quality concerns and report issues per QA/QC procedures
Attach identifying tags/labels or mark information on crates, pallets, or containers for accurate tracking
Read work orders and follow instructions from the lead to determine materials needing movement, hanging, or crating
Safely secure or remove lifting attachments on coils and materials
Manually lift and position coils as needed to load/unload bars, basket bars, or monorail hang points
Operate or assist with overhead crane and rigging activities to safely move materials
Maintain a clean, organized work area and clean equipment as instructed
Follow all safety and housekeeping standards, including proper storage of materials and equipment
Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate material flow
Perform other duties as assigned to support production and warehouse operations
Qualifications & Skills
Required
High school diploma or GED
Entry-level experience preferred (3-9 months in manufacturing or material handling), or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to read and understand work instructions, safety policies, and procedures
Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Effective communication skills
Preferred
Experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment
Experience with material handling, packing, or inventory processes
Exposure to overhead crane operation or rigging
Basic knowledge of safely moving and securing loads
Industrial or general labor experience
Physical Requirements
Regular standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing
Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs , occasional lifting up to 50 lbs , and regular handling of lighter materials
Ability to work around industrial equipment, cranes, and moving materials
Good manual dexterity for handling coils, tags, and tools
Work Environment
This role operates in a warehouse and manufacturing setting with exposure to industrial equipment and production activities. Work involves:
Continuous standing and movement throughout the shift
Regular lifting and material handling
Working around overhead cranes and rigging equipment
Strong adherence to safety and housekeeping standards
Flexibility to work second shift or alternate schedules as needed to support operations

This is a Contract position based out of Louisville, KY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
