GS-7 Salary Range: $52,770 - $68,603 GS-8 Salary Range: $58,441 - $75,970 Responsibilities As a Financial Litigation Technician in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), you will work with federal prosecutors, law enforcement, and other financial litigation staff to recover restitution for crime victims as well as to collect fines and debts owed to the United States. Work assignments include: Enforcing judgments in criminal and civil cases and independently performing all functions to collect amounts imposed, including restitution to victims, criminal fines, and civil debts. Reviewing and analyzing financial information about assets and transactions of debtors, including determining their present and future potential ability to pay their debts. Collecting debts, including by drafting letters, forms, and reports necessary to initiate the collection of debts and working with prosecutors in collection actions. Assessing the appropriateness and cost effectiveness of pursuing debts by lawsuit or other proceedings to enforce judgments and collect debts. Initiating contact with debtors concerning payment of their obligations, their ability to pay, and negotiating written payment schedules to successfully assure collection of debts. Entering and tracking financial data in automated systems and spreadsheets. Conducting skip-tracing activity when necessary to locate debtors and determining any follow up needed to locate the debtor. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-7: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must meet the specialized experience. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level in federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing the following @types of duties: obtaining and analyzing financial information on debtors to determine their ability to pay; communicating with debtors to present options for debt payments, answering questions, and clarifying information; preparing letters to initiate the collection of debts; and entering and tracking financial data in automated systems and spreadsheets. GS-8: To be eligible at the GS-8 level, you must meet the specialized experience. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing the following @types of duties: initiating contact with debtors concerning payment of their obligations, their ability to pay, and negotiating written payment schedules to assure successful collection of debts; reviewing debtor financial asset information to prepare payment plans; reconciling payment transactions with records and documents and identifying and resolving inconsistencies; and participating in decisions concerning post judgment remedies such as garnishments. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
