Job Title: Mechanical Field Service EngineerJob Description
We are seeking a Mechanical Field Service Engineer to provide hands-on support for custom automated equipment at customer sites. In this role, you install, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical systems, support commissioning and integration activities, and work closely with internal engineering and project teams. The position involves significant travel, direct customer interaction, and independent work in diverse industrial environments.
Responsibilities
Install, service, troubleshoot, and repair custom automated mechanical equipment at customer sites.
Diagnose mechanical failures, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
Perform mechanical adjustments, repairs, and retrofits to restore and optimize equipment performance.
Support system commissioning, debug, and integration activities for automated machinery and equipment.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, mechanical schematics, and technical documentation to guide service work.
Provide technical guidance and training to customers on equipment operation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
Document all service activities, findings, and recommendations through clear and accurate service reports.
Coordinate closely with project management, engineering, and service teams to plan and execute field activities.
Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, reliability, and maintainability based on field observations.
Use hand tools and mechanical testing instruments safely and effectively during installation and service tasks.
Support machine design and mechanical design feedback by communicating field issues and improvement ideas to engineering.
Assist with PLC-related troubleshooting in collaboration with controls and automation personnel when needed.
Essential Skills
Strong mechanical troubleshooting experience with custom machinery or automation equipment.
Solid understanding of mechanical systems, including mechanisms, pneumatics, hydraulics, bearings, and drives.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, engineering specifications, and technical documentation.
Proficiency with hand tools and mechanical testing instruments used in industrial environments.
Ability to work independently in field environments and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
Willingness to travel up to 50-60% for domestic and international assignments.
5+ years of hands-on experience supporting or servicing industrial or automated equipment.
Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
Experience with commissioning, debug, and integration of automated equipment.
Strong communication skills with proven customer-facing experience.
Experience with PLC troubleshooting and working with PLC-controlled machinery.
Mechanical engineering and mechanical design background, including exposure to machine design.
Ability to interpret and work from technical documentation, including design drawings and service manuals.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience servicing automated equipment in industrial environments.
Familiarity with SolidWorks or similar mechanical design software.

Experience supporting design and mechanical improvements based on field feedback.
Comfort working with cross-functional teams including project management, engineering, and service.
Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to diagnosing complex mechanical issues.

Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules, travel demands, and diverse customer requirements.
Work Environment
This is a field-based role that combines work at customer sites with time in manufacturing and engineering facilities. You will perform hands-on mechanical work in industrial environments that may include production floors, automated equipment cells, and test areas. The position requires frequent domestic and international travel, often involving extended stays at customer locations to support installation, commissioning, and service activities. You will regularly use standard hand tools, mechanical testing instruments, and work with automated machinery and PLC-controlled systems. The environment is fast-paced and collaborative, with close interaction among engineering, project management, and service teams. Appropriate industrial attire and adherence to on-site safety and personal protective equipment requirements are expected.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.27 - $55.29/hr.
