This Manufacturing Plant Engineer role offers the opportunity to join an innovative roofing technology manufacturer that specializes in rubberized asphalt shingles designed for superior durability and sustainability. You will support the mission to manufacture and deliver performance-driven building products with a strong focus on longer-lasting, environmentally responsible roofing solutions that withstand demanding weather conditions. In this position, you will provide technical expertise for capital, expense, and maintenance projects, working closely with site leadership to drive safety, reliability, and continuous improvement across the plant.
Responsibilities
Collaborate closely with plant leadership, including the engineering and plant management teams, to provide technical expertise for the development, design, and execution of capital, expense, and maintenance projects.
Develop and design capital and expense projects in alignment with process design requirements, ensuring feasibility, safety, and operational efficiency.
Perform detailed capital project cost estimation and financial justification, and prepare clear business cases to support project approval and prioritization.
Plan, schedule, and execute inspections of equipment and machinery to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.
Partner with plant production management and operations staff to identify, lead, and support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity, quality, and cost efficiency.
Maintain and improve work procedures and processes to support company and departmental standards, procedures, and strategic directives.
Promote and uphold a strong safety culture by consistently communicating, improving, and adhering to health, safety, and environmental policies in all work environments and areas.
Demonstrate safe work practices and serve as a role model for safety, encouraging others to follow established safety protocols and procedures.
Support facility automation initiatives by applying engineering principles to optimize equipment performance and process control.
Collaborate with maintenance teams to address electrical maintenance needs and ensure timely resolution of equipment issues.
Contribute to Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement activities, including the application of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies where appropriate.
Ensure projects are executed in a safe, profitable, timely, and efficient manner, meeting scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
At least 3 years of manufacturing experience in a plant or industrial environment.
Proven experience with continuous improvement in a manufacturing setting.
Demonstrated ability to perform capital project cost estimation and prepare business cases for capital and expense projects.
Experience supporting or leading facility automation initiatives.
Hands-on experience with electrical maintenance or close collaboration with electrical maintenance teams.
Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles.
Familiarity with Six Sigma concepts and their application in process improvement.
Ability to develop and maintain work procedures and processes in alignment with organizational standards and strategic directives.
Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental compliance, including adherence to site safety protocols and policies.
Ability to communicate effectively with plant leadership and production staff to support continuous improvement and project execution.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working in a Lean Six Sigma manufacturing environment.
Prior involvement in projects focused on facility automation and process optimization.
Experience inspecting and maintaining older production equipment and machinery.
Ability to work effectively in a diverse workforce, including collaborating with colleagues who primarily speak Spanish.
Comfort working in environments that require clear, proactive communication, even when leadership communication styles vary.
Willingness and ability to adhere to all required safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators.
Capability to meet respirator fit requirements, including maintaining a clean-shaven face where the respirator seal meets the skin, when applicable.
Interest in contributing to environmentally responsible and sustainable building products.
Ability to participate in or support holistic health and well-being programs and other company-sponsored initiatives.
Work Environment
The role is based in a manufacturing plant that operates within a Lean and Six Sigma-oriented work environment, with a strong focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence. The facility utilizes older equipment, so you can expect to work with legacy machinery that may require creative problem-solving and thoughtful maintenance strategies. Collaboration with the Plant Manager and production staff is central to the role, and you will navigate a setting where communication styles may vary and where proactive, clear communication is valuable. A significant portion of the workforce speaks Spanish, creating a multilingual environment where cross-cultural collaboration is part of day-to-day operations. The plant emphasizes strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies, including the consistent use of approved personal protective equipment (PPE), such as respirators when required, and compliance with respirator fit standards. The pay range for this position is $125000.00 - $160000.00/yr.
