Job Overview
The Manufacturing Director - Utility Automation is responsible to oversee the execution of production, assembly and supply chain management for directly operated plants as well as to coordinate and manage product needs from internal BU partner plants and external contract manufacturers. This includes ownership of the revenue commitments and production oversight to ensure alignment between activities and production plans to meet customer requirements and revenue goals. Overall responsibility for all aspects of the day-to-day operation of all production lines and value streams including materials management.
A Day In The Life
Work with product managers to generate annual revenue and orders forecast for input to finance for budget/PSI (Production, Sales, Inventory) creation
Commits and tracks Business Unit Revenue to the corporation: Analyze and publish daily shipments and bookings to track revenue and orders progress relative to monthly, quarterly, and annual targets and update PSI (Production, Sales, Inventory) reports
Oversees operations, production, supply chain, manufacturing engineering, and quality departments to achieve maximum efficiency and quality in the manufacturing, assembly, and test of product
Drives production planning and owns the quarterly revenue commitment activities to deliver on business objectives
Prepares annual Operations budget and compiles Sales, Inventory, Operations Planning (SIOP) data to maximize the performance of manufacturing based on backlog and demand forecasts from Marketing
Works with, and drives activities of, direct manufacturing sites, internal partner manufacturing sites, and contract manufacturers to plan production, commit and execute revenue, and optimize effectivity
Supports the adherence to a production master schedule and responds as appropriate to significant deviations and changes to satisfy customer requirements, and optimize resource utilization
Develops programs, projects, goals, and metrics to lead the organization to the highest level of operational performance while optimizing resource effectivity, cost, quality, on-time-delivery, inventory turns, and obsolecense risk
Drives continuous improvement activities to integrate lean and six sigma manufacturing principles into production processes
Ensure efficient and cost-effective operational results that meet safety, quality, order demand, specifications, and planning targets through the coordination and management of plant equipment, personnel, and production processes (quantity, quality, budgeted costs and proper productivity level)
Implements Environment, Health, & Safety (EHS) business compliance standards and regulations. Ensures a safe working environment, and continuous improvement in EHS process and integrity of performance
Drives total landed costs reductions, supplier price negotiations in conjunction with the matrix Sourcing group, fulfillment, payment terms and supplier contract negotiations
Develops sourcing strategies to reduce costs and eliminate sole source risk to the business
Drives team to resolve product defects through the RMA Process, identifying root cause and implementing operational improvements to eliminate future manufacturing induced issues
Maintain lead-time analysis for all product lines, publish to marketing and update SAP
Maintain on-time-delivery (OTD) status and report out monthly. Develop OTD forecast annually and update monthly
Maintain past-due order status and work with all functions to minimize and report out monthly
Maintain Vendor (OTD) status, scorecard to manage supplier performance and report out monthly. Prepare vendor (OTD) forecast annually and update monthly.
Develop annual inventory plan, monthly inventory forecast, manage inventory to plan and reduction risk of obsolete material
Conduct quarterly Excess and Obsolete inventory analysis and write-off proposals to management
Participates in the development and execution of the Utility Automation BU business plans based on corporate objectives
Implements and ensures compliance with global and local standards, rules, tools, policies and processes related to operations/project execution and shares functional best practices and lessons learned across the organization
Ensures that the area of responsibility is properly organized, staffed, skilled and directed. Guides, motivates and develops direct and indirect subordinates

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Extensive SAP knowledge as it pertains to manufacturing planning, scheduling, and materials management
Strong working knowledge of data analysis and performance metrics, using business management software (ex: SAP, ERP, CRM, Other)
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and influence individuals, internally and externally, direct and indirect, across all levels, functions and geographies.
Effective multitasking skills and the ability to take on additional responsibilities as required

Advanced knowledge of productivity tools especially Microsoft Excel

Effective negotiation and problem-solving skills
Collaborate and influence cross functional peer leaders in order to obtain support for process improvements
Solid financial understanding, risk analysis ability, relationship building and project management
Certified Six-Sigma Green/Black Belt, Electric Utility experience is a plus
Electrical engineering, mechanical engineeor similar technical degree required. MBA a plus.
10+ years electronics and electro-mechanical manufacturing experience
10+ years in a leadership role with multiple sites (100+ employees and associated revenue/customer base)
