Description We are looking for an experienced Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for a retail organization in California. This long-term contract opportunity is ideal for someone who can manage daily financial activities, maintain accurate records, and help ensure timely reporting and compliance. The role requires strong knowledge of general ledger processes, journal entry preparation, and tax-related accounting responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

Prepare and record journal entries to support accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.

Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies to maintain reliable accounting records.

Assist with sales tax filings and related documentation to support compliance with applicable regulations.

Contribute to the preparation of corporate tax return schedules and supporting financial data.

Review accounting transactions for accuracy and proper classification within the general ledger.

Support month-end and year-end close activities by organizing financial information and meeting reporting deadlines.

Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather accounting details, resolve variances, and improve reporting accuracy.

Maintain organized financial records and documentation to support audits and internal reviews. Requirements - 5+ years of accounting experience, including hands-on staff accountant responsibilities.

Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting and journal entry preparation.

Experience supporting sales tax processes and related compliance requirements.

Familiarity with corporate tax return support, including preparation of schedules and backup documentation.

Ability to identify discrepancies, perform account reconciliations, and resolve accounting issues effectively.

High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail in financial recordkeeping.

Proficiency with accounting systems and spreadsheet tools used for reporting and analysis.
