Job Summary
Description:
A Postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Population Medicine at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute and Harvard Medical School. The position involves the development, implementation, and evaluation of statistical methods for causal inference in the complex setting to time-varying treatment strategies, repeatedly measured outcomes, and truncation by death. Specific research areas include causal identification for longitudinal settings as well as double debiased machine learning methods as applied to electronic health records databases. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Jessica Young in the Division of Biostatistics. The postdoctoral research fellow will have opportunities for both methodological research and close collaboration with medical investigators.
Jointly sponsored by a medical school and a non-profit health plan, Department of Population Medicine (www.populationmedicine.org) is uniquely positioned as a supportive and collaborative academic department. Its multi-disciplinary faculty includes biostatisticians, epidemiologists, health services researchers, data scientists, social scientists, internists, pediatricians, and decision analysts. Faculty members conduct research in multiple areas including statistical methods development and application, medical product safety surveillance, infectious disease epidemiology, aging, cancer control, maternal and child health, health care policy, and obesity prevention.
Qualifications:
Doctoral degree, such as a PhD, or ScD, or in final stage of doctoral program in Biostatistics, Statistics, Bioinformatics, or Epidemiologic Methods.
Proficiency with advanced statistical theory and methods.
Strong programming skills (e.g., R, C++, Python).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
Ability to meet deadlines and manage time efficiently.
Job Description
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES - what you will be doing:
Design research study and protocols, including creating detailed timelines, meeting with faculty and staff collaborators, planning for technical and data support, and creating survey instruments.
Prepare proposal for obtaining research funding & Sponsored Program Application including compiling documentary material for human studies review.
Provide day-to-day management for research projects, including overseeing the activities of research assistants, data collection, developing plans, conducting data analysis. Manage database design and development.
Prepare manuscripts detailing research findings and submit findings to peer-reviewed medical journals.
Perform out-of-the-box thinking, collaborate with others, and make a difference every day!
Other duties and projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS - what you need to perform the job:
Doctoral degree, such as an MD, PharmD, or PhD.
Introductory knowledge of scientific research methods and biostatistics.
Ability to learn techniques for analyzing complex data.
Sound knowledge of computer systems, including word processing and spreadsheet software
Resilient, collaborative, flexible, innovative.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
Must be able to work under normal office conditions and work from home as required.
Work may require simultaneous use of a telephone/headset and PC/keyboard and sitting for extended durations.
May be required to work additional hours beyond standard work schedule.

Salary Range
$62,052.94 -$93,079.42

The annual base salary range provided for this position represents a range of salaries for this role and similar roles across the organization. The actual salary for this position will be determined by several factors, including the scope and complexity of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate; as well as internal equity. As part of our comprehensive total rewards program, colleagues are also eligible for variable pay. Eligibility for any bonus, commission, benefits, or any other form of compensation and benefits remains in the Company's sole discretion and may be modified at the Company's sole discretion, consistent with the law.
