Job Focus Area
At the Louisiana Department of Education Office of Early Childhood Operations, the mission is to ensure the safety and well-being of children by maintaining rigorous standards for criminal background checks. The office helps protect Louisiana's youngest residents by thoroughly screening applicants with out-of-state residency, working closely with agencies nationwide to verify criminal history.
The position of Administrative Program Specialist B manages a critical part of this process. In this role, oversight of out-of-state criminal background checks is provided for residents with out-of-state addresses within the past five years. The responsibilities include coordinating with at least two agencies in every state or territory where an applicant has resided, ensuring complete and accurate background verifications that support the commitment to safe and high-quality early childhood care.

Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience in administrative services; OR
Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus one year of experience in administrative services; OR
A bachelor's degree plus one year of experience in administrative services; OR
An advanced degree.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
As an Administrative Specialist B, the position plays a key role in supporting the effective operation of a departmental or statewide program. In this position:
Manage day-to-day operations of the assigned program, including oversight of budgeting, purchasing, and fiscal reporting to ensure responsible use of resources.
Establish, implement, and periodically revise program standards and guidelines to maintain quality and adapt to changing requirements.
Coordinate and maintain critical program information by updating databases, generating accurate reports, and safeguarding data integrity.
Prepare and present program information in workshops, meetings, and other settings as needed to communicate updates, findings, or recommendations.
Perform certification and eligibility review duties as required by the program, ensuring accurate and timely processing of applications and documentation.
Monitor program activities to ensure ongoing compliance with all relevant Federal and State regulations, taking corrective action as necessary to address any discrepancies.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment. The person hired for this position is expected to regularly report to the Baton Rouge office. Current permanent classified state employees may be required to accept a probationary appointment, if selected.
Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.
Work Schedule:Work hours are Monday - Friday. Work hours will be determined.
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
