The Superintendent of Construction oversees ground-up commercial projects from initial site clearing through final closeout, ensuring that work is completed safely, on schedule, and to high quality standards. This role suits a hands-on field leader who excels in subcontractor coordination, scheduling, and communication, and who thrives in a structured, repeatable project environment. You will work within standardized programs supported by historical data, checklists, and collaborative field leadership, allowing you to focus on execution, quality, and schedule while contributing to a strong, steady project backlog and a collaborative superintendent culture.
Responsibilities
Oversee ground-up commercial construction projects from grubbing and site clearing through final completion and closeout.
Manage and coordinate all subcontractor activities on site to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in sequence.
Enforce project standards, quality control measures, and safety protocols throughout all phases of construction.
Produce consistent and accurate field documentation, including detailed daily reports, progress photos, and Job Hazard Analyses.
Develop, maintain, and update four-week look-ahead schedules that clearly outline upcoming work and milestones.
Review and break down look-ahead schedules with subcontractors on a weekly basis to align expectations and resolve potential conflicts.
Lead weekly subcontractor coordination meetings to review progress, address issues, and confirm upcoming work plans.
Communicate effectively and regularly with project management and field leadership to report status, risks, and resource needs.
Participate in ongoing collaboration with other superintendents to share best practices and continuously improve field operations.
Maintain momentum, decisiveness, and a proactive mindset in a fast-paced construction environment.
Apply construction management and supervision best practices to support project scheduling, site logistics, and overall site organization.
Interpret and work from blueprints and construction documents to guide field activities and verify work in place.
Support tenant improvement and site construction scopes as part of ground-up and related commercial projects.
Essential Skills
7-10+ years of Superintendent experience on ground-up commercial construction projects.
Proven experience managing projects from initial site work through final closeout.
Demonstrated expertise in commercial ground-up construction, including site construction activities.
Strong track record of subcontractor management, coordination, and supervision on active job sites.
Proficiency with construction management software, including Procore, for documentation, communication, and tracking.
Solid understanding of project scheduling and the ability to create and maintain four-week look-ahead schedules.
Experience enforcing and maintaining safety protocols on site, including familiarity with OSHA standards.
Ability to produce thorough daily reports, progress photos, and Job Hazard Analyses to support field controls.
Strong understanding of quality control processes in commercial construction environments.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents accurately.
Comfort operating within standardized programs and repeatable build processes.
Effective communication skills for coordinating with subcontractors, project management, and field leadership.
Capability to work decisively and maintain momentum in a fast-paced construction setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with restaurant, retail, dental, medical, or small grocery construction projects is preferred.
Background with tenant improvement work in addition to ground-up construction is beneficial.
Experience working for or with general contractors on commercial projects.
OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training is strongly preferred.
Experience applying structured checklists and historical data to support consistent project execution.
Interest in collaborating with other superintendents to share best practices and improve project outcomes.
Comfort with a culture that emphasizes clear expectations, proven systems, and field success.
Desire for long-term continuity and growth across multiple assignments and project @types.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $52.00/hr.
