We are looking for attorneys to join our Enforcement Teams.WORK SCHEDULEMinimum 3 in-office days/week, in TCEQand#8217;s Agency Headquarters in Austin.YOUR FUTURE TEAMTCEQand#8217;s Office of Legal Services (OLS) manages legal services for the agency in environmental law, enforcement litigation, bankruptcy, and general agency operations. The office gives legal counsel and support to the executive director and agency programs, and along with the general counsel and the public interest counsel, the office also supports the commissioners.This position is a member of OLSand#8217;s Litigation Division, to supervise and manage a new enforcement section. See details about what we do.HEREand#8217;S WHAT YOUand#8217;LL BE DOINGSupervises enforcement staff attorneys in TCEQand#8217;s Litigation Division. This includes their evaluation and training to ensure consistent work standards and procedures, and it includes oversight over their assignments. Coordinates and facilitates legal support for assigned program areas. Plans and implements strategies for resolving problems and issues. Participates in significant, controversial, and/or unusual cases. This includes coordinating the divisionand#8217;s participation with supporting the Office of the Attorney General in their representation of the Executive Director for civil enforcement. Analyses proposed legislation and helps TCEQ provide information to the Texas legislature. Coordinates with and informs the divisionand#8217;s Deputy Director about pertinent matters, including the performance of division work and recommendations regarding budget, grants, merits, and promotions. Assists and/or leads hiring efforts. Qualifications: REQUIRED EDUCATION EXPERIENCEAdmission to the State Bar of Texas, plus:Eight years of full-time experience in the practice of law, or employment in a responsible position involving legal work as a primary duty; or Six years of full-time experience in the practice of environmental law or employment involving environmental legal work.As an alternative to meeting the required number of years of experience, candidates are eligible if they meet one or more of the following criteria:Meets four of five Attorney IV career ladder knowledge, skills, and abilities criteria: or Demonstrates exceptional knowledge of highly complex subject matter; and:Reports directly to a Division Deputy Director; Routinely acts in place of a Senior Attorney or other high level supervisor; or Supervises the work of other attorneys in the demonstrated area of expertise.Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.
