Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Job Description
This role offers an opportunity for a degreed Mechanical Engineer with 3-15 years of experience to take ownership of mechanical design for commercial and institutional HVAC systems. You will perform calculations, design, layout, and specification work using Revit, BIM, and Bluebeam on projects such as K-12 schools, higher education facilities, multi-family developments, and public sector buildings including police and fire stations. You will apply a strong working knowledge of mechanical and energy conservation codes and standards to deliver efficient, code-compliant designs while collaborating with multi-discipline project teams.
Responsibilities
Perform mechanical calculations, design, layout, and specification of commercial and institutional HVAC systems for K-12, higher education, multi-family, and public sector projects.
Develop detailed HVAC and plumbing designs using Revit, BIM, and Bluebeam in coordination with architectural and engineering disciplines.
Apply a strong working knowledge of the International Mechanical Code and Energy Conservation Code to ensure compliant and energy-efficient designs.
Interpret and implement requirements from codes and standards such as SMACNA, NEC, IBC, IMC, IECC, and ASHRAE throughout the design process.
Collaborate effectively as part of multi-discipline project teams, communicating design intent and resolving coordination issues.
Manage and successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment with minimal oversight.
Maintain excellent organizational practices, ensuring accuracy and strict attention to detail in all design documents and deliverables.
Troubleshoot design challenges and provide practical, well-reasoned solutions under pressure while maintaining a positive, can-do attitude.
Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback to continuously improve design quality and project outcomes.
Support documentation and revisions as projects progress from concept through construction documents.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
3-15 years of mechanical engineering experience, specifically in HVAC design.
Hands-on experience with mechanical engineering and HVAC engineering for building systems.
Proficiency in Revit for mechanical and plumbing design and layout.
Experience using BIM tools and workflows for coordinated building design.
Working knowledge of Bluebeam for reviewing, marking up, and coordinating design documents.
Strong understanding of HVAC design principles for commercial and institutional buildings.
Good working knowledge of the International Mechanical Code and Energy Conservation Code.
Working knowledge of codes and standards such as SMACNA, NEC, IBC, IMC, IECC, and ASHRAE.
Ability to work effectively as a member of multi-discipline project teams with strong communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment with minimal oversight.
Excellent organizational skills with strict attention to detail.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to work well under pressure and maintain a proactive, can-do attitude.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience designing projects in one or more of the following sectors: K-12 education, higher education, multi-family residential, and public sector facilities such as police and fire stations.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward professional licensure is beneficial.
Experience in architecture and engineering environments or multi-discipline design firms.
Interest in ongoing professional development and participation in a structured mentorship program.
Motivation to pursue the Professional Engineer (PE) license, with support for exam costs and a bonus upon successful completion.
Work Environment
This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with in-office work on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and the option to work remotely on Wednesday and Friday after the first 90 days. The role is based in a collaborative office environment that uses Revit, BIM, and Bluebeam as core design and coordination tools. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $96000.00/yr.
