Job Title: Entry Level Engineer Technician
Job Description
The Engineer Technician I provides hands-on technical support to engineers on a variety of projects and products. In this entry-level role, you collect, organize, and manipulate technical data, assist with engineering design and documentation, and support both office-based and field-based activities. You contribute to the preparation of reports, drawings, and schematics, perform basic engineering calculations, and assist with testing and analysis under close supervision. This position is ideal for someone early in their engineering technology career who wants to develop practical skills in power and utility-related work while learning established standards, procedures, and tools.
Responsibilities
Support engineers on technical projects and products by collecting, maintaining, organizing, compiling, and manipulating technical data.
Create, build, assemble, modify, and/or repair proto@types as directed by engineering staff.
Prepare engineering documentation, including reports, drawings, sketches, flow charts, diagrams, and schematics.
Perform mathematical and engineering calculations in accordance with established engineering specifications and guidelines.
Set up and conduct tests, record test data, and assist engineers with data analysis and interpretation.
Undertake data analyses using provided guidelines and standard procedures, and recommend alternative solutions to identified problems and obstacles.
Coordinate with permit agencies, right-of-way specialists, system owners, field leaders, forestry leaders, and third-party owners for joint-owned poles to support project execution.
Review work and information provided by internal stakeholders and assess the requirements of project scopes to ensure feasibility and compliance with standards.
Provide engineering support during construction activities, including post-construction reviews to confirm that applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
Conduct root cause analysis of outages using engineering principles and design practices, and assist in developing mitigation measures.
Travel to project sites as needed to perform field inspections and collect field data to support the development of electrical design work packages.
Return to the office to perform engineering design support tasks based on collected field data and project requirements.
Follow standard practices and procedures when analyzing situations or data, seeking guidance for issues beyond defined scope.
Interact daily with supervisors and functional peer groups to exchange factual information and provide status updates on assignments.
Work under close supervision while applying basic scientific and engineering principles to routine assignments and building proficiency in the role.
Essential Skills
High school diploma or equivalent.
Foundational knowledge of basic scientific and engineering principles applicable to entry-level engineering technician work.
Ability to apply basic engineering concepts, practices, and procedures to support technical assignments.
Written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with supervisors, peers, and external stakeholders.
Ability to work in outdoor environments to support field work and site inspections.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to follow standard practices and procedures when analyzing data and situations of limited scope.
Capability to perform basic mathematical and engineering calculations in accordance with provided specifications.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in engineering technology.
Experience or familiarity with engineering, particularly in electrical or power-related disciplines.
Power and utilities experience, preferably involving distribution or transmission assets.
Previous experience with field data collection, such as site inspections, measurements, or asset verification.
Experience coordinating with external parties such as permit agencies, right-of-way specialists, system owners, and third-party asset owners.
Ability to conduct or support root cause analysis and recommend mitigation using engineering principles.
Interest in developing expertise in electrical design work packages and construction standards.
Work Environment
This role involves a mix of office and field responsibilities. In the office, you work with standard business software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook to prepare documentation, perform calculations, and support engineering design activities. You collaborate closely with supervisors and peer groups in a structured environment that follows established procedures and standards. In the field, you travel to project sites to perform inspections, collect data, and observe construction or asset conditions, which may involve working outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions. The position operates under close supervision, with clear guidelines and expectations, providing a supportive environment for learning and professional growth while contributing to power and utility-related projects.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Atlanta, GA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr.
