Summary This position is located at the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center. The work involves fabricating, overhauling, modifying, installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electronic equipment. The work requires knowledge of electronic principles; the ability to recognize improper operation, locate the cause, determine the best method to correct the defect; and the skill to disassemble, assemble, and adjust electronic equipment, including using both manual and automated test equipment. Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to: Maintains, repairs, installs, and makes operational checks on a variety of complex equipment and complete systems. Maintains, tests, and repairs directional finding systems, satellite communications systems, navigational aids, etc. Installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs complex electronics equipment and a complete operational system(s ) consisting of numerous complex integral components which require knowledge of a wide range of electronics principles and practices. Responsible for the total operations, programming, maintenance, and repair of the access control systems. Requires thorough and in-depth knowledge of both hardware and software aspects of multiple systems, including but not limited to Medeco XT, CCure, Keystone and SimpleK. Responsible for the installation and repair of all @types of locks, combinating cores and to cut keys. Performs other related duties as assigned. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The employee frequently lifts and carries, unassisted, items weighing up to 40 pounds. They are sometimes required to lift and carry items weighing more than 50 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. Climbing and working in high places may be required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
