This Medical Assistant role supports an OBGYN practice within a large, established health system. You will provide direct patient care and administrative support, including rooming patients, collecting clinical data, performing phlebotomy, assisting with procedures, and coordinating patient flow. You will work closely with physicians, nurses, and other team members to deliver compassionate, efficient, and high-quality care to patients and their families.
Responsibilities
Conduct patient rooming and intake, including collecting vital signs, height, weight, and information related to the patient's reason for visit.
Collect patient and family data, including detailed medical and social history.
Review the patient's current medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy, and update records accurately.
Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy in accordance with clinical protocols.
Review the patient record to determine whether routine health screenings are due and notify the provider as appropriate.
Ensure exam and procedure rooms are fully stocked with appropriate supplies, equipment, forms, and educational materials prior to each visit or procedure.
Provide patients with after-visit summaries, follow-up instructions, self-care guidance, and procedural instructions or educational materials as directed by a provider or nurse.
Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain exam and treatment rooms to support a safe and efficient clinical environment.
Clean and sterilize instruments according to infection control and safety standards.
Assist with patient registration, check-in and check-out processes, appointment scheduling, and scheduling of tests, treatments, and referrals.
Answer clinic telephones and assist with electronic in-basket messages under the direction of a provider or nurse.
Assist in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse, following established protocols.
For Certified Medical Assistant II level responsibilities, precept new medical assistant and credentialed medical assistant hires, as well as medical assistant externs.
Train other medical assistants in clinic procedures and best practices.
Assist physicians in maintaining preventive health measures for a defined panel of patients, including outreach and follow-up as needed.
Perform clinic-based quality or safety functions, such as serving as clinic safety coordinator, maintaining immunization or medication registries, or performing medication and other required audits.
Manage clinic supply ordering to ensure adequate inventory and cost-effective use of resources.
Essential Skills
Current Medical Assistant certification from one of the following: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA).
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
At least one year of full-time experience as a Medical Assistant or demonstration of equivalent competencies as outlined in a Medical Assistant, Certified Advancement framework.
Proficiency in obtaining and documenting vital signs and other intake data accurately.
Demonstrated experience in phlebotomy and specimen collection.
Ability to use an electronic medical record system (such as Epic) to document clinical and administrative information.
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and colleagues.
Ability to engage positively with patients and families in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Strong customer service skills, including professionalism, empathy, and responsiveness.
Experience rooming patients and supporting internal medicine or similar outpatient clinical workflows.
OBGYN clinical experience in an ambulatory or similar setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accreditation Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred but not required.
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or equivalent credentialing aligned with the required certifications.
Experience working within a large health system or multi-provider clinic.
Familiarity with internal medicine and women's health/OBGYN workflows and terminology.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, such as room preparation, scheduling, and documentation.
Attention to detail in maintaining preventive health measures, medication lists, and patient records.
Interest in participating in quality improvement or safety initiatives within the clinic.
Ability and willingness to mentor or train other medical assistants, where applicable.
Work Environment
This role is based in an outpatient OBGYN clinic within a large health system. The schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., providing a consistent daytime workweek. You will work in exam and treatment rooms equipped for women's health and obstetric care, using an electronic medical record system such as Epic and standard medical equipment for vital signs, phlebotomy, and procedures. The environment is fast-paced and team-oriented, with close collaboration among physicians, midwives, nurses, and other clinical and administrative staff. The role involves frequent patient interaction, periods of standing and walking, and adherence to clinical attire and infection control standards appropriate for an ambulatory medical setting.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $23.00/hr.
