The Medical Assistant provides high-quality clinical and administrative support in a busy urgent care setting. This role focuses on preparing patients and exam rooms, accurately documenting clinical information in the electronic medical record, assisting physicians with procedures, and facilitating smooth patient flow throughout the day. The Medical Assistant plays a key role in delivering compassionate patient care while supporting the daily activities of the clinical team.
Responsibilities
Greet patients in a professional and welcoming manner and help ensure a positive experience throughout their visit.
Perform and document vital signs accurately, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and other measurements as required.
Prepare patients for examinations and procedures by verifying information, explaining processes, and ensuring comfort and privacy.
Prepare examination rooms for visits and procedures, ensuring they are clean, organized, and fully stocked with necessary supplies and equipment.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment in all clinical areas in accordance with infection control and safety guidelines.
Assist physicians with procedures by documenting medical history, current concerns, and case notes in the electronic medical record.
Accurately collect patient data in person and by phone, documenting symptoms, concerns, and questions in the electronic medical record for provider review.
Relay instructions, care plans, and follow-up information from the physician or nurse practitioner to the patient or authorized representative in a clear and respectful manner.
Document all messages and care provided in the electronic medical record, ensuring completeness and accuracy for physician or nurse practitioner review.
Perform complete and accurate message taking, including routing messages to the appropriate area for follow-up, order entry, and referral processing.
Enter and process orders in the electronic medical record system as directed, including setting up cases and performing basic patient registration and demographic updates.
Accurately document medical information, including history, medications, allergies, and clinical findings, in patient records.
Track and route test results to physicians and nurse practitioners for timely review and follow-up.
Communicate test results to patients when authorized by the physician or nurse practitioner, ensuring patients understand next steps and instructions.
Facilitate patient care activities by scheduling ancillary tests and services as ordered by providers.
Reinforce patient education by reviewing instructions, answering basic questions within scope, and directing patients to providers for additional clarification when needed.
Perform basic triage activities as appropriate and directed by the physician or nurse practitioner, following site-specific protocols.
Maintain adequate inventory of medical, office, and pharmaceutical supplies by monitoring stock levels and notifying appropriate staff when reordering is needed.
Use electronic health record systems proficiently to conduct daily documentation, order entry, communication, and care coordination tasks.
Support a high-volume urgent care environment by helping manage patient flow and assisting colleagues as needed to ensure efficient operations.
Demonstrate reliability and flexibility, including the ability to work extended hours when needed to support patient care.
Essential Skills
At least 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
Proficiency in taking and documenting vital signs accurately and efficiently.
Hands-on experience working with electronic medical records (EMR) or electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Ability to document medical histories, patient concerns, and clinical information clearly and accurately.
Strong patient care skills, including preparing patients for exams and procedures and supporting their comfort and understanding.
Basic computer skills, including navigating, entering, and retrieving data in EMR/EHR systems.
Ability to process orders, enter referrals, and set up cases in an EMR system with attention to detail.
Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients, providers, and staff.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment.
Experience in a high-volume clinical or urgent care setting is highly beneficial.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or similar Medical Assisting credential is highly preferred.
Experience with phlebotomy and specimen collection is a plus.
Previous experience in urgent care or emergency care settings is advantageous.
Familiarity with scheduling ancillary tests and coordinating patient services.
Ability to reinforce patient education and explain instructions in an accessible and supportive way.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals.
Flexibility to work occasional extended hours, including staying until 6 PM when needed.
Motivation to grow within the organization and explore opportunities in different specialties.
Strong customer service orientation and a compassionate approach to patient interactions.
Work Environment
This position is based in a busy urgent care clinic that sees approximately 50-100 patients per day. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility to work until 6:00 PM as patient volume requires. The environment is fast-paced and team-oriented, with frequent interaction with patients, physicians, nurse practitioners, and clinical support staff. The role involves extensive use of electronic medical record and electronic health record systems for documentation, order entry, and communication. Medical Assistants work in exam rooms, clinical areas, and front-office spaces, helping to maintain a clean, organized, and safe facility. The position offers opportunities for overtime and exposure to different specialties, providing room for professional growth within a supportive clinical setting. Professional clinical attire is expected to ensure a polished and hygienic presentation to patients.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
