The Accounting Automation Analyst supports payroll and related business activities by gathering and documenting detailed business requirements, analyzing information from multiple sources, and helping to design and test automated solutions. This role focuses on improving processes within payroll, accounting, and finance systems, with a strong emphasis on SAP and downstream system integrations. The analyst collaborates closely with internal and external stakeholders, contributes to testing efforts, and helps document internal controls to support audit and compliance needs.
Responsibilities
Gather and document detailed business requirements related to payroll, accounting, finance, and associated business activities.
Analyze and evaluate information from multiple sources to produce clear documentation such as business requirements, process flows, test plans, test scripts, and test results.
Assist with developing test strategies and performing testing activities for the payroll system and downstream systems, including regression and user acceptance testing.
Support process improvement and automation initiatives across payroll and finance functions, leveraging SAP and related technologies.
Represent the department in meetings, providing clear and professional written and verbal communication to internal and external stakeholders.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support system implementations, enhancements, and upgrades, particularly within SAP Payroll.
Assist in identifying, documenting, and maintaining internal controls to support audit requirements and ensure compliance.
Contribute to functional design discussions and process modeling to optimize payroll and accounting workflows.
Track and report on testing progress, issues, and results, escalating risks and defects as needed.
Maintain accurate and organized documentation to support ongoing operations, audits, and future system changes.
Essential Skills
5+ years of payroll, finance, or accounting experience (minimum 3 years required).
Multiple years of hands-on experience working in SAP, including SAP Payroll.
1+ year of business systems analysis experience, including functional design, documentation, and process modeling.
Proven experience with user acceptance testing (UAT) and regression testing for payroll or financial systems.
Strong understanding of payroll, accounting, and finance processes and their integration with automated systems.
Ability to gather, analyze, and document complex business requirements and translate them into clear technical and functional specifications.
Experience creating and maintaining process flows, test plans, test scripts, and test results.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to represent the department effectively in meetings and through written and verbal communication.
Attention to detail and ability to identify and document internal controls to support audit activities.
Proficiency with process improvement and automation concepts within finance and payroll operations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Experience supporting or participating in system implementation projects, particularly involving SAP or payroll systems.
Background in process improvement initiatives within payroll, finance, or accounting functions.
Familiarity with downstream systems that integrate with payroll and financial platforms.
Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment and manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on accuracy and efficiency in financial and payroll data.
Comfort working in a structured testing environment, including documenting and resolving defects.
Interest in working within a complex, high-performance environment such as the airline industry.
Work Environment
This role operates in a hybrid work model, with three days in the office and two days working from home each week. The position is based in a modern office environment in Tempe, offering opportunities to collaborate in person with finance, payroll, and technology teams while also providing flexibility for remote work. The work involves extensive use of SAP and other payroll and financial systems, as well as standard office productivity tools. The environment is professional, fast-paced, and focused on continuous process improvement and automation within a large, sophisticated operation in the airline sector.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $52.00/hr.
