Summary This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Center for Program Integrity (CPI), Data Analytics & Systems Group (DASG). As a Data Scientist, GS-1560-11/12, you will design, develop, and implement the analytical, statistical, and programming mechanisms necessary to collect, organize, analyze, and interpret unique and highly specialized data sets. Responsibilities Serves as an advisor to project teams and leadership at the Division or Group level in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting unique and specialized CMS data sets that may inform agency decisions regarding CMS programs or CMS business operations. Conducts data collection, manipulation/cleansing, and analysis; develops data visualizations; and develops and tests hypotheses using tools such as Statistical Analysis System (SAS) software, R, or SPSS. Translates the results of analysis into clear, actionable communications that equip Agency decision makers with the data to make informed evidence-based decisions about program or operations strategy. Provides technical advice in the development and analysis of pilot initiatives and applications, and makes recommendations to management on the use of such technology as it relates to CMS data. Serves as a resource to Federal and contractor staff on data science, and may be called upon to serve as a team leader, assuming development of project planning, coordination of team efforts, and maintaining lines of communication.
