Job Description
The Electrical Test Technician performs a wide range of electronic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical tests on electronic systems, subassemblies, printed circuit boards, and components to verify that each unit operates according to specifications and to determine the root cause of unit failures. Using a full range of electronic test instruments and detailed technical documentation, this role ensures product quality, supports troubleshooting and repair, and contributes to continuous improvement of testing and quality control processes.
Responsibilities
Review and interpret test schedules, work orders, wiring diagrams, schematics, data sheets, certificates of evaluation, test manuals, and performance specifications to determine appropriate testing procedures and equipment.
Set up and connect units under test to electronic test instruments and equipment, including wave generators, various test stands and fixtures, hi-pot testers, ohmmeters, voltmeters, ammeters, resistance bridges, oscilloscopes, GenRad, and Zehntel systems.
Operate and monitor test equipment, reading and understanding dials and indicators that show electronic characteristics such as voltage, frequency, distortion, induction, and capacitance.
Perform functional tests on systems, subassemblies, and parts through complete operating sequences, following diagrams and test specifications to verify performance against requirements.
Troubleshoot and trace circuits on defective units using knowledge of electronic theory and electronic test equipment to locate issues such as shorts, open circuits, or faulty components.
Repair or replace defective wiring and components using appropriate hand tools and soldering equipment, or clearly document defects and tag units for return to the production department for repair.
Conduct detailed visual inspections of units to identify physical defects, including broken wires, excess solder, poor solder joints, and any foreign material lodged in assemblies.
Record the @type and quantity of defects found during testing and inspection, maintaining accurate records for quality and traceability, and issue defect reports as required.
Assist with additional testing assignments that fall within or below the scope of this role to support team and production needs.
Conduct audits of products and processes to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
Perform preventive maintenance on electronic control systems and mechanical equipment used in testing to ensure reliability and accuracy of test operations.
Work a 2nd shift schedule of 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, while maintaining consistent, high-quality testing and documentation.
Essential Skills
Proven experience as an electrical test technician performing electronic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical testing on systems, subassemblies, printed circuit boards, and parts.
Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, data sheets, and test manuals.
Hands-on experience with troubleshooting electronic circuits and systems to identify shorts, faulty components, and other defects.
Proficiency in using electronic test instruments such as wave generators, hi-pot testers, ohmmeters, voltmeters, ammeters, resistance bridges, oscilloscopes, GenRad, and Zehntel equipment.
Demonstrated ability to perform functional testing through complete operating sequences based on diagrams and performance specifications.
Ability to use hand tools and soldering equipment to replace defective wiring and components safely and accurately.
Strong attention to detail for visual inspection of assemblies, including identifying broken wires, excess solder, poor connections, and foreign matter.
Capability to accurately record test results and defects, and to prepare and issue defect reports.
Experience in quality control and testing within an electronics or manufacturing environment.
Ability to perform preventive maintenance on electronic control and mechanical equipment.
Solid understanding of basic electronic theory and its application to testing and troubleshooting.
Ability to work 2nd shift hours from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in electronics, electrical testing, hardware test, test development, or test engineering.
Experience working in a clean manufacturing or production environment.
Familiarity with quality control processes, defect reporting, and audit practices.
Comfort using precision measurement tools such as micrometers and related equipment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to document findings and collaborate with production and quality teams.
Ability to follow detailed procedures while also exercising sound judgment when troubleshooting and resolving issues.
Commitment to safe work practices and proper use of personal protective equipment.
Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques.

Work Environment
This role is based in a clean manufacturing and testing environment that combines production floor and office-like settings. The noise level is usually moderate, and most areas maintain ambient room temperatures and standard lighting. Some tasks require working in manufacturing areas where personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection, is required. You will use a variety of electronic test equipment, fixtures, and standard office tools throughout the workday. The position follows a 2nd shift schedule from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The physical demands include regularly talking and hearing, frequently standing and walking on level surfaces, sitting, and using hands and arms for writing, typing, and reaching above shoulder height and below the waist. You must occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
