Ames Middle School is seeking an Attendance Administrative Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year. This position will start in August 2026.

Work Schedule:7:30am-4:00pm Monday-Friday, 9.5 month work calendar.

Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Middle School Principal, this position serves Ames Middle School by working closely and communicating with other personnel, students, parents and the public.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Communicates in a welcoming and supportive way toward all students, co-workers, parents, staff, and community members.

Compiles information to generate a daily attendance sheet from parental phone calls/notes, prior to arrangement forms and homeroom tabulations for staff use.

Contacts parents/guardians after a 2-day absence for any student if the parent/guardian has not called.

Supervises students sent to the office for discipline.

Works closely with school busing company concerning eligible students and problems throughout the year.

Works closely with school facilities department for building rentals and access.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High school graduate or equivalent. Post high school education in related field, or the equivalent in experience preferred.

Prefer a minimum of two years' experience as an administrative assistant.

Experience with computer applications preferably Google Sheets, Google Docs, Excel, Word and Apple OS.

The successful candidate will exhibit:

Knowledge and ability to work effectively and collaboratively with various stakeholders, including students, parents, and visitors.

Knowledge of general budgeting practices.

Knowledge of general office procedures and equipment (i.e. personal computer, calculator, other office equipment).

Knowledge of office practices and procedures to include recordkeeping, filing, and reporting methods, including Google Docs, email, spreadsheets, etc.

Ability to handle confidential work with tact and discretion.

Ability to interact with other staff, students, and the public to obtain and provide information.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions.

High standards of ethical conduct and exhibits honesty and integrity.

Committment to quality service.

High level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently. Works with minimal supervision.

Consistent and punctual work attendance.

Bilingual abilities in Spanish preferred.

Compensation:$18.50 per hour
