Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $67,314.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Supervise the work of all direct reports to ensure that activities are addressed timely, accurately and appropriately.
Screen and respond to formal and non-formal complaints, referrals, emphasis-related contact, threats of imminent danger, and fatalities and catastrophes.
Prioritize and assign investigations to the Safety Inspectors as appropriate.
Conduct monthly onsite evaluations as well as quarterly and annual reviews/evaluations of Safety Inspectors.
Evaluate field and report work of the IOSHA Safety Inspectors for timeliness, appropriate technical findings, errors, content, clarity of communication, etc.
Evaluate evidence of corrective action submitted by employers.
Prepare safety orders, penalties, and abatement times for the Division Director prior to being issued to the respondent.
Coordinate and/or conduct necessary training for Safety Inspectors.
Interact with federal, state and local environmental and health agencies, and the general public in enforcement activities.
Complete accurate and timely records and reports related to travel, work schedule and work activities.
Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees.? Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.
Essential functions of this position require travel on most workdays to inspect, audit, examine, survey, or investigate clients, customers, or other regulated entities and write reports at those sites or employee's home. Employee reports to the agency's office for occasional meetings or events. Number and timing of work hours may vary daily or weekly to accommodate operational needs and staffing concerns at the client's or customer's worksite, minimize expenditures for repeated visits to complete the work, and allocate resources to complete assigned work effectively.
This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

What You'll Need for Success:
Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:
Undergo an annual physical/medical evaluation to ensure physically able to carry out the essential functions of the position.
Ability to carry sometimes heavy and awkward equipment, and to walk, climb, stand, crouch while carrying sampling and measuring devices and wearing protective clothing, including respirators.
Ability to work in unpleasant and hazardous conditions, including noise and toxic chemicals, during inspections/investigations.
Broad knowledge of training techniques relating to occupational health and safety subject matters.
Ability to interpret and apply IOSHA regulations, consensus standards, and various practices and precedents falling within the jurisdiction of IOSHA.
Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
Ability to maintain working cooperative relationships and ability to manage difficult situations with utmost professionalism.
Effective communication skills
Ability to communicate concisely to all levels of an organization.
Strong skills in the use of computers.
