Job Title: Electrical Design Engineer - Water and Wastewater InfrastructureJob Description
This role offers the opportunity to design and support electrical power, lighting, and control systems for municipal water and wastewater facilities, including new construction and upgrades to existing infrastructure. You will work primarily in the design and engineering phase and provide support through construction administration, contributing to critical public infrastructure projects while developing specialized, niche expertise in water and wastewater treatment facilities.
Responsibilities
Perform field investigations and condition assessments of electrical power distribution and control equipment for municipal water and wastewater facilities.
Develop detailed designs for electrical power distribution systems, lighting systems, and control systems for water and wastewater treatment plants and related infrastructure, in accordance with recognized industry standards and specifications.
Apply preliminary knowledge of instrumentation devices such as level, pressure, temperature, and flow instruments when developing and reviewing designs.
Perform system calculations and power system studies, including load flow, voltage drop, short circuit, and coordination studies, using electrical analytical software such as SKM Tools.
Prepare and update design drawings and documentation using AutoCAD, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements and applicable codes.
Use Microsoft Word and Excel to prepare reports, calculations, technical memoranda, and other project documentation.
Collaborate closely with supervisors, colleagues, and clients to clarify requirements, present findings, and incorporate feedback into design solutions.
Support construction administration activities by responding to requests for information, reviewing submittals, and assisting in resolving field issues related to electrical systems.
Apply relevant electrical standards and codes to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant designs for public infrastructure and heavy industrial projects.
Contribute analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate alternatives, troubleshoot design challenges, and optimize system performance.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
At least 4 years of experience with electrical power distribution on public infrastructure or heavy industrial projects.
Demonstrated experience in electrical design for power distribution systems, including low- and medium-voltage equipment and associated controls.
Proficiency with AutoCAD for preparing and modifying electrical design drawings.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, for documentation, reporting, and analysis.
Working knowledge of standards and codes related to electrical distribution and control systems.
Ability to perform electrical power system calculations and studies such as load flow, voltage drop, short circuit, and coordination, preferably using SKM Tools or similar analytical software.
Effective verbal and written communication skills for interaction with supervisors, colleagues, and clients.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills applied to design, troubleshooting, and system optimization.
Background in water, wastewater, or other public infrastructure projects, with a focus on electrical systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with municipal water and wastewater treatment facilities and associated electrical systems.
Exposure to or experience with instrumentation devices such as level, pressure, temperature, and flow instruments.
Experience with control systems for industrial or municipal facilities.
Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward professional licensure is beneficial.
Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar specialized electrical design tools is a plus.
Familiarity with switchgear and various voltage levels used in municipal and industrial power distribution.
Interest in developing specialized, niche expertise in water and wastewater treatment facility design.
Desire to grow into long-term roles with opportunities for professional development, licensing, and leadership.

Work Environment
This position is based in an office environment with approximately 21 team members in the local office. Standard hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday in the office, with remote work on Fridays. The dress code is business casual. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $60.00/hr.
