What You Will Do
The Manufacturing Manager 4 position is responsible for managing all aspects of facility operational activities at the Waste Characterization, Reduction, and Repackaging Facility (WCRRF) under the Chemistry & Waste Facility Directorate. The selected individual will lead a highly skilled team in the execution of the facility's primary mission to downsize and package equipment for waste disposal in a challenging environment while ensuring safety, security, and facility safety basis requirements are met. Additional responsibilities include personnel management, budget adherence, and communication with both internal and external customers.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Leadership: Demonstrated record of managing a wide range of programs/functions, to include personnel management, budget adherence, Safety Basis implementation, and integrated safety management.
Regulations and Requirements: Demonstrated expertise in ensuring compliance with conduct of operations, operational procedures, waste processing, and LANL policy documents.
Professional Level Experience: Expert level of knowledge of conduct of operations, integrated safety management, waste processing and packaging, safety basis requirements, conflict resolution, mentoring and training personnel, lock-out tag-out, configuration management, and oversight of high-hazard work.
LANL Systems: Experience using waste and nuclear materials management databases such as the Waste Characterization and Tracking System (WCATS), LAMCAS, and LANMAS.
Planning and Organization: Demonstrated experience establishing work scope, operational schedules, and analyzing metrics to improve operational efficiency.
Problem Solving: Demonstrated experience in effective decision-making, creative problem-solving, and developing solutions for complex issues while maintaining compliance with policies and procedures.
Communication: Ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external customers and lead investigations to determine facts and corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Excellent oral and written communication skills to include drafting memorandums, procedures, and event notifications.
Teamwork: Demonstrated experience in teaming with multiple organizations to accomplish objectives and demonstrated ability to elicit effective teamwork, including mentoring and motivating team members and peers.
Education/Experience : Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
DOE Order 426.2: Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or related science, and 4 years nuclear experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Background in Commercial, Navy or Navy Shipyard Nuclear Operations.
Advanced knowledge and understanding of Nuclear Facility conduct of maintenance, conduct of engineering, conduct of operations and quality assurance programs.
In-depth knowledge of the Laboratory's organizational structure and objectives.
Demonstrated ability to serve as a member of the Facility Incident Command during emergency response.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. 426.2A: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2A, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
