This position will be part of the Enterprise Services team, which delivers a full suite of services to state agencies, boards, councils, and commissions, and many central services to local government partners.
As the Infrastructure Designer with Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) you will focus on Layer 1 infrastructure. Specifically, fiber optical networking and outside plant network infrastructure, configuration, installation, and maintenance. Responsibilities include fiber optic and copper design, installation, troubleshooting, repair, construction management and network documentation. The fiber optical backbone provides the physical key paths for the transport of the State routed network (MNET), and provides assistance to critical State network voice, video and data transport services representing all State, County, public higher education, including life safety law enforcement and health/human services.
Due to the nature of the work, this position may be required to go out in the field or agency office to work with the vendors to repair as needed and to verify the repair is to our standards.
This position requires an employee to be onsite at 600 Robert Street N, St. Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location. Minimum Qualifications

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of IT related experience in fiber optical networking and outside plant network infrastructure, configuration, installation, and maintenance.
Experience must include:
Optical network equipment and technology (CWDM, DWDM, OADM) and fiber optic design.
Auto-cad and Visio experience for creating, viewing and modifying vendor and customer network drawings.
WAN and LAN network experience including hardware and software.
System analysis and design methods.
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a manner that facilitates mutual understanding.
Customer-focused approach grounded in active listening, empathy, and solution-oriented problem-solving to deliver positive user experiences.
Education in Information Technology (IT) or an IT related field may substitute for experience as follows: a master's degree for eighteen (18) months of experience; a bachelor's degree for one (1) year; and an associate's degree for six (6) months.
** This position requires a driver's license for travel to between agency and field locations.
