Summary This vacancy is for a GS-0610-11, Nurse (Clinical/Ambulatory) located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, BASE NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION in WASHINGTON, District of Columbia. Responsibilities You will serve as a Nurse (Clinical/Ambulatory) and be responsible for providing nursing services in a Coast Guard Accredited ambulatory care clinic rendering health care services required to assess and maintain fitness for duty of members of the Uniformed Services and other eligible beneficiaries. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Providing professional nursing services in a CG Accredited ambulatory care clinic rendering health care services required to assess and maintain fitness for duty of members of the Uniformed Services and other eligible beneficiaries. Working closely with the provider in developing a comprehensive care plan encompassing both medical and nursing diagnoses by documenting patient capabilities, limitations, goal achievement, and health educational needs. Operating within the established Standards of Nursing Practice, Scope of Practice, and the physical, mental, and emotional needs of the patient as personally assessed. Notifies provider of significant changes in patient's condition. Assisting in patient education in terms of maintenance of health; self-care, in appropriate conditions; and discharge planning. Interfacing/coordinating with care partners (DoD, VA, civilian, etc.) regarding patient conditions and treatment as needed. Coordinating health care by processing and tracking referrals and reports. Assisting medical officers in providing emergency (patient stabilization only) services in a limited emergency care facility. Ensuring clear communication on all complex cases is routed to the HSWL SC Nurse Consultant or authorized personnel on a routine basis. Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position. Qualifications Basic Requirements: This position has a positive Education Requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience or substitution of education for experience or combination (if applicable) in order to be found minimally qualified. You MUST meet the following requirements: EDUCATION: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs(external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. AND To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the federal or private sector. Providing nursing support related to patient education and care planning such as assisting with educating patients and families on the maintenance of health, disease prevention, self-care for acute and chronic conditions, and/or providing vaccinations. Coordinating patient care which includes communicating and collaborating with healthcare providers and external care partners to support continuity of care and appropriate treatment as it relates to following up on medical referrals, consults, and/or diagnostic reports.
