Lanier Technical College - Hall County campus is conducting a search for the following full-time, benefits-eligible, FLSA-exempt, salaried position. POSITION: Emergency Management Program Chair and Instructor
REPORTS TO: Dean of Business, Public Safety, and Professional Services
SALARY: Low to Upper $60's annually, depending on education & qualifications
EFFECTIVE: July 1, 2026
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under general supervision, d evelops program and course outlines, goals and objectives; Prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction for credited Emergency Management courses; Assists with teaching classes in other public safety areas, such as Fire Science or Criminal Justice; Evaluates students' progress in attaining goals and objectives; Requests and maintains supplies and equipment and prepares required budget requests; Maintains program certification requirements, as appropriate; Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports; Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the training area; Meets with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of the students; Assists with student recruitment, retention and job placement efforts. Work with Dean to coordinate adjunct instructors; Manages administrative responsibilities related to scheduling, developing syllabi and teaching courses. Also performs various duties as Program Chair, i.e. oversees all adjunct personnel and provides all information to complete various departmental and College reports. Other work-related duties as assigned by Dean.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Associate's Degree in Emergency Management or closely related field such as Criminal Justice, Fire Science, Fire & Emergency Services, or Public Administration from a regionally accredited college or university;
· Credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting agencies;
· Three (3) years of relevant work experience in a public safety field;
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Ability to work flexible hours, teach at any College campus, and juggle multiple & competing priorities
· Ability to participate in appropriate staff development and campus activities
· Ability to effectively supervise students in the classroom
· Ability to develop and evaluate lesson plans, and select appropriate textbooks
· Ability to effectively direct and assess students' progress in achieving required competencies
· Ability to effectively handle administrative responsibilities related to teaching of courses, data collection, and reporting for license agency, accreditation agencies, and the College
· Ability to work cooperatively with others in a fair and unbiased manner, and to maintain a pleasant, professional relationship with students and faculty/staff
· Skill in the operation of work-related computers
· Appropriate oral and written communication skills that effectively communicate information to students who might function at the new, beginning, or advanced level
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
· Effective decision making and problem-solving skills
· A positive attitude and strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to minimum qualifications & competencies):
· Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management or closely related field such as Criminal Justice, Fire Science, Fire & Emergency Services, or Public Administration from a regionally accredited college or university;
· More than three (3) years of relevant work experience;
· Previous teaching experience, especially at the postsecondary level;
· Previous experience teaching on-line;
· P.O.S.T certified instructor;
· Certifications in Fire Science field;
· Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
