Job Title: Electrical Field Engineer
Job Description
The Electrical Field Engineer supports complex industrial and manufacturing facilities by leading electrical building system startups and commissioning activities, overseeing contractor performance, and ensuring that all electrical installations meet project specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes. This role combines field engineering, construction management, and electrical design expertise to drive projects from design review through installation, testing, and handover to end users. The position offers long-term stability, significant opportunities for professional growth, and exposure to large-scale, technically advanced projects in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
Facilitate electrical building system startups and commissioning activities, ensuring systems operate safely, reliably, and in accordance with design intent.
Provide subject matter expert support in reviewing product and equipment submittals, shop drawings, engineering design drawings, specifications, and contractor-generated RFIs.
Apply extensive knowledge of safety procedures, safe work practices, and OSHA requirements for electrical installations, including Lock-Out, Electrical Safe Work Practices, Control of Hazardous Energy, and arc flash safety.
Interpret and enforce prevailing building codes and professional industry standards such as IBC, NEC, NESC, NFPA, AMCA, ARI, AWS, ASHRAE, and FM during design review and field activities.
Coordinate with building construction contractors and equipment vendors to plan and manage equipment factory testing, delivery, installation, commissioning, and handover to end users.
Organize and oversee weekend and plant shutdown work in collaboration with contractors, plant facilities teams, and manufacturing shops to minimize production impact.
Conduct continuous work progress inspections to verify that construction activities align with project plans, specifications, and schedules.
Support construction administration tasks, including schedule coordination, quality confirmations, weekly coordination meetings, and planning for utility outages.
Inspect and observe electrical building systems to confirm compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes.
Oversee the work of electrical contractors to ensure adherence to project delivery methods, schedule milestones, and coordination with other disciplines and groups.
Prepare and deliver field engineering status reports on work progress and schedule performance to Project Managers.
Provide feedback and recommendations to improve project technical specifications, standards, and design criteria based on field observations and lessons learned.
Communicate technical matters clearly and effectively in both written and verbal formats to project teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
Manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously by organizing work, managing time effectively, and prioritizing commitments according to deadlines and project milestones.
Essential Skills
5-10 years of professional experience in an electrical engineering or closely related role.
At least 2 years of experience in construction management, overseeing electrical or industrial projects.
5+ years of experience in the electrical design field, including development of design criteria for electrical systems.
Experience working in automotive facilities such as engine, transmission, or vehicle manufacturing plants, or similar industrial manufacturing environments.
Strong knowledge of electrical building systems and their integration into industrial and manufacturing facilities.
Extensive understanding of safety procedures and OSHA requirements for electrical installations, including Lock-Out, Electrical Safe Work Practices, Control of Hazardous Energy, and arc flash safety.
Working knowledge of prevailing building codes and professional industry standards, including IBC, NEC, NESC, NFPA, AMCA, ARI, AWS, ASHRAE, and FM.
Demonstrated ability to perform and document field inspections, commissioning activities, and quality checks on electrical systems.
Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage schedules, coordinate multiple stakeholders, and track project milestones.
Effective written and verbal communication skills for conveying technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project for reporting, documentation, and schedule management.
Ability to multi-task, manage time effectively, and prioritize work in a fast-paced project environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in construction management within industrial, manufacturing, or automotive facilities.
Hands-on involvement in startup and commissioning of substations and/or mechanical equipment.
Familiarity with Bluebeam for drawing review, markups, and collaboration.
Experience using AutoCAD for reviewing and interpreting electrical design drawings.
Exposure to multi-discipline project environments, including civil, electrical, and related engineering disciplines.
Some college education in engineering, construction, or a related technical field.
Experience in manufacturing or automotive environments and understanding of production facility operations.
Proficiency in using Excel for data tracking, reporting, and project-related analysis.
Experience with commissioning processes and procedures for complex electrical systems.
Ability to build strong working relationships with contractors, vendors, and internal project stakeholders.

This is a Contract position based out of Troy, MO.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $58.00/hr.
