GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Department of Health, Public Health Laboratory (WPHL), Chemical Testing Program (CTP) seeks an experienced Forensic Evidence Technician (PSFC06) to join our team. This position is responsible for accessioning, screening (e.g., EIA or ELISA), and archiving biological samples sent to the WPHL and CTP from various agencies across Wyoming. In addition, this position is responsible for responding to requests for information, laboratory maintenance, and waste disposal in accordance with laboratory standard operating procedures. This position is also involved in public health emergency surge capacity activities, including pipetting media, waste disposal, shipping/receiving, sample accessioning, and other general support functions during infectious disease outbreaks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.
Receive evidence in the form of biological samples and maintain the appropriate chain of custody.
Enter subject and case information into the Laboratory Information Management System.
Disperse aliquots of each sample for analysis and operate laboratory screening instrumentation (e.g., Mindray BS-480).
Perform technical review of screening results.
Catalog and appropriately archive evidence in designated secure areas.
Maintain specimens and supply inventories.
Inventory toxicology sample screening supplies, and general supplies used by technicians and forensic toxicologists.
Maintain clean glassware, counters, sinks, and other areas for all laboratory personnel. Operate the autoclaves and dishwashers on a washroom rotation.
Maintain laboratory equipment.
Testify in court regarding the handling and security of samples.
Receive packages and shipments from UPS, FedEx, USPS, and state couriers.
Respond to requests for information or litigation support.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to candidates with prior experience as a forensic evidence technician or forensic scientist, and/or specific training on EIA or ELISA-based chemistry analyzers.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of legal evidence collection, legal chain of custody, and basic toxicology laboratory procedures.
Knowledge of biological safety and appropriate safety precautions when working with biohazardous samples.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Attention to detail.
Skill in data processing and analysis.
Experience with Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Meet, etc.).
Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
Customer service experience.
Ability to lift 25-50 lbs. daily.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Associate's Degree (typically in Science)
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience in (Forensic Crime)
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
2-4 years of progressive work experience in (Forensic Crime)

Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ability to lift 20 to 25 pounds daily.
Subject to being on-call 24/7 for response to field crime scenes.
