Overview Salem State University's Art Design Department seeks a dedicated Graphic Design Laboratory Assistant to support our thriving creative community. The Graphic Design Laboratory Assistant oversees the operation and maintenance of all facilities instrumental to the effective delivery of the department's graphic design curriculum. Facilities include two graphic design computer labs and a print production lab. The laboratory assistant is responsible for ensuring that the physical space is functioning to the highest degree while working with university personnel on maintenance, upgrades and inventory. In addition to the lab management and production support, the laboratory assistant advises faculty on curriculum development while also providing instructional support for students. The laboratory assistant acts as a professional role model when supervising and training student staff and interns. This is a full-time, 12 month position with hours from 8am-4pm. BA or BFA in Graphic Design or related field. 2. One - three years of experience working with design technology in a professional, academic, or production environment. 3. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Apple computers and iOS devices, Adobe Creative Suite, and other relevant software. 4. Experience maintaining local area networks. 5. Strong troubleshooting skills with knowledge of ordinary repairs and diagnostics of Apple computers, iOS devices, and printers. 6. Knowledge of best practices in graphic design production and laboratory procedures. 7. Experience with graphic design in a professional creative studio and/or production environment. Preferred Qualifications 1. Five or more years professional experience with design technology; including managerial/supervisory experience. 2. Experience maintaining printing equipment and managing inventory of consumables. 3. Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to students with diverse learning styles. 4. Ability to set up and maintain peripherals including projectors, scanners, printers, and other computer interfaced or related equipment. 5. Ability to adapt activities to the changing needs of the technical laboratory. Working Location This is an onsite position in Salem, MA with some on-campus, in-person responsibilities, which may require occasional work on evenings and weekends.
