Manufacturing Engineer
Position Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineer to support production operations in a metalworking environment. This is a newly created position reporting into the Manufacturing Team, designed to bridge engineering, operations, and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background, experience working directly on the production floor, and the ability to support CNC programming, equipment setup, and Lean manufacturing initiatives. This role is critical in improving processes, standardizing work instructions, supporting automation efforts, and ensuring safe and efficient operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesManufacturing & Production Support
Provide day-to-day engineering support on the production floor
Assist operations and operators with CNC programming, setup, and troubleshooting
Serve as a technical resource for operators working with manually and semi-automated equipment
Ensure all manufacturing activities meet safety, quality, and productivity standards
CNC Programming & Equipment Integration
Support and assist with programming and operation of:
CNC machines
Automated saws (recipe selection, speed/feed optimization)
Leveling equipment (programming based on manuals and process requirements)
Rolling press equipment (understanding force, pressure, and metal behavior)
Troubleshoot programming and process issues related to CNC integration
Support ongoing equipment improvements and capability expansion
Process Improvement & Lean Manufacturing
Apply Lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency and reduce waste
Identify, develop, and implement process improvement projects
Support continuous improvement initiatives across multiple manufacturing projects
Analyze current processes and recommend improvements for safety, quality, and throughput
Documentation & Standardization
Understand, create, and improve work instructions and SOPs
Ensure operators are following documented processes and procedures
Standardize best practices across production areas
Support training and knowledge transfer through clear documentation
Project & Automation Support
Support project-based work related to manufacturing initiatives
Assist with installation and transition to automated manufacturing cells, including:
5-axis robotic arm
CNC mill
CNC lathe
Work cross-functionally during the company's transition toward increased automation
Manufacturing Environment
Metalworking operation producing large metal discs
Individual, one-by-one production (not high-volume line manufacturing)
Part weights ranging from 100-400 lbs
Two factory locations
Combination of manual operations, hand automation, and CNC equipment
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
3+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or production environment
Experience working directly with:
CNC machines and programming
Equipment integration in a shop-floor setting
Strong understanding of metallurgy and metalworking processes
Ability to read technical manuals and independently program or configure equipment
Practical, hands-on problem-solving mindset
Strong safety awareness and commitment to safe manufacturing practices
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a metalworking or heavy manufacturing environment
Exposure to Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives
Project management experience supporting multiple concurrent projects
Experience supporting or commissioning automated manufacturing cells

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Orangeburg, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.06 - $45.67/hr.
