Job Title: Superintendent of Construction
Job Description
The Superintendent of Construction leads on-site operations for complex commercial projects, ensuring that work is executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role oversees all field activities, coordinates subcontractors and trades, and serves as the primary on-site representative, working closely with project management, owners, inspectors, and design partners. Responsibilities
Serve as the primary on-site representative for the company on all assigned construction projects.
Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily construction activities and site logistics to ensure efficient field operations.
Manage subcontractor sequencing, manpower, and productivity across all trades to maintain project momentum.
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional jobsite at all times.
Enforce all company, site-specific, and OSHA safety programs and standards on the jobsite.
Conduct daily safety walks, toolbox talks, and coordination meetings to promote a strong safety culture.
Proactively identify and resolve unsafe conditions or behaviors before they impact workers or schedule.
Maintain all required safety documentation, logs, and incident reporting in accordance with regulations and company policies.
Collaborate with the Project Manager to develop, update, and maintain the overall project schedule.
Track daily progress in the field and identify potential impacts to schedule or cost, escalating issues as needed.
Ensure all work is performed in accordance with construction drawings, specifications, building codes, and quality standards.
Conduct regular inspections of work in progress and oversee punch-list completion and quality control activities.
Lead subcontractor coordination meetings and daily planning sessions to align work plans and resolve conflicts.
Communicate effectively with owners, inspectors, and design partners to support inspections, approvals, and project milestones.
Collaborate with project teams on RFIs, submittals, and constructability issues to keep the project moving forward.
Support commissioning, inspections, and project closeout activities to ensure a smooth turnover.
Complete accurate daily reports, including manpower tracking and photo documentation of site conditions and progress.
Assist with material procurement, coordination of deliveries, and site inventory control to avoid delays and material shortages.
Support project documentation requirements through project closeout, ensuring records are complete and organized.
Utilize field technology tools such as Procore, Bluebeam, and MS Project to manage information, schedules, and reporting.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Construction Superintendent or equivalent field leadership role.
Proven experience delivering commercial construction projects, including projects larger than $5 million.
Experience with commercial, healthcare, higher education, or mission-critical projects.
Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Deep knowledge of construction sequencing, means, and methods across multiple trades.
Demonstrated ability to manage subcontractors and multi-trade environments effectively.
OSHA 30 certification or willingness to obtain this certification.
Proficiency with field technology platforms such as Procore or similar construction management software.
Experience with job scheduling and construction schedule management.
Proficiency in blueprint reading and applying plans to field execution.
Experience managing commercial construction projects with values of at least $1 million.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Hands-on experience using Procore for project and field management.
Proficiency with Bluebeam for drawing review, markups, and documentation.
Experience using MS Project for schedule creation, updates, and analysis.
Background working on commercial projects exceeding $5 million in value.
Strong communication skills for effective interaction with owners, inspectors, design teams, and subcontractors.
Proven ability to maintain detailed documentation, including daily reports, safety logs, and photo records.
Ability to support RFIs, submittals, and constructability reviews as part of the project team.
Organized and detail-oriented approach to site logistics, inventory control, and material coordination.
Leadership style that promotes safety, quality, teamwork, and accountability on the jobsite.
Work Environment
This is a field-based role that requires working on-site five days a week. The Superintendent is generally assigned to one primary project site, with occasional travel between two nearby sites when required. The work environment is an active commercial construction jobsite, where the Superintendent oversees day-to-day field operations, subcontractors, and site logistics. The company utilizes modern field technologies, including platforms such as Procore, Bluebeam, and MS Project, to support project management, scheduling, and documentation. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Berlin, CT.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $58.00/hr.
