Summary This position is in the Health Information Management (HIM) Service in the Business Operations Program of Veteran's Health Care System of the Ozarks. The work requires basic knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. The work requires practical knowledge of legal requirements of the medical record and privacy law and regulations. Strong computer skills and the ability to use multiple health information software applications and basic office software applications. Responsibilities The primary duties of this position are to maintain accessible records and provide efficient service for direct and indirect patient care by managing the receipt, scanning, and indexing of health documents in a timely and accurate manner. Major duties and responsibilities include: Maintains accessible records and provides efficient service for direct and indirect patient care. Manages the receipt, scanning, and indexing of health documents in a timely and accurate manner. Analyzes validity and process efficiently all documents received. Responds properly when documents do not meet established guidelines for inclusion in the electronic medical record. Performs duties related to the receipt, intake, scanning, indexing, quality control, destruction, and transfer of health and administrative information. Scans various health information documents into VistA Imaging. Assures that scanned documents are associated to the correct patient and note in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS). Follow scanning procedures established by the Medical Records Committee and the Chief, HIM. Confirms record integrity and review the image quality in the VistA Imaging display. Ensures regular quality checks are carried out according to prescribed timeframes and criteria. Notifies the Supervisor when images are scanned into the wrong patient's record, are indexed incorrectly, or are corrupted. Reviews documents for appropriate scanning criteria and ensure that all necessary health/administrative information meeting the criteria is integrated into CPRS.
