Machine Operator - Twin Screw Compounding / Extrusion

About the Role
We are hiring a Machine Operator to join our Twin Screw Compounding and Extrusion operations. This is a hands-on manufacturing role focused on setting up, operating, and maintaining complex equipment used to produce high-quality fiber, composite, and adhesive materials.
This position is ideal for mechanically inclined individuals who enjoy problem-solving, working with equipment, and learning multiple processes in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Setup & Operation
Set up twin screw compounders and extrusion equipment, including screw removal and installation.
Configure machine settings such as temperature profiles, feeders, and cooling tower systems.
Operate compounder and extrusion lines, monitoring performance and making real-time adjustments.
Calibrate and operate feeders to ensure consistent material flow.
Quality & Production
Inspect finished product visually and through basic quality checks to ensure specifications are met.
Handle material as it exits the extrusion line, remove adhesives as required, and place finished product into designated packaging.
Follow detailed work instructions, methods, and procedures to ensure consistent, high-quality output.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Clean feeders, hoppers, and related equipment to maintain safe and efficient operation.
Perform routine adjustments, minor repairs, and basic preventive maintenance using hand tools.
Troubleshoot machine and process issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
Safety & Teamwork
Work safely at all times by following safety protocols and using required PPE.
Collaborate closely with material handlers and other operators to coordinate workflow across multiple machines.
Maintain a clean, organized work area and support routine housekeeping activities.
General Duties
Support compounding, mixing, blending, and material handling as needed.
Use basic computer systems for machine interfaces, production tracking, and documentation.
Lift and move materials and finished product up to 50 pounds.
Essential Qualifications
Minimum of 6 months in a mechanical, industrial, or hands-on role (machine operator, mechanic, construction, manufacturing, or similar).
Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand how equipment and systems function.
Experience operating, setting up, or troubleshooting machinery in a production environment.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
Basic computer skills for machine interfaces and documentation.
Ability to follow detailed instructions, procedures, and safety requirements.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think on your feet.
Willingness to learn new equipment, processes, and product lines.
Comfortable using hand tools and making mechanical adjustments.
Strong safety mindset and attention to detail.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Experience with twin screw compounding or extrusion processes.
Experience in chemical mixing, blending, adhesives, or composite materials.
Exposure to blueprint reading or technical documentation.
Preventive maintenance experience on manufacturing equipment.
Forklift experience or willingness to be trained.
Experience in GMP or regulated manufacturing environments.
Ability to manage multiple processes and adapt in a dynamic setting.
Interest in advancing into lead or supervisory roles as the company grows.

Clean, well-organized manufacturing facility producing fiber, composite, and adhesive materials
Team-based setup, typically three employees supporting two machines
Active, hands-on work around industrial equipment
Occasional overtime, not typically mandatory
3rd shift schedule: Approximately 11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of St Paul, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.
