Duties and Responsibilities
This position is responsible for providing a high level of support by maintaining office operations in the areas of secretarial duties, maintaining records, performing administrative duties and providing assistance to the Troop Commander. This position is responsible for compiling and disseminating routine and special reports and initiating special projects and activities. This position is also responsible for processing a variety of correspondence requiring special knowledge relating to FHP operations, providing support services to the Troop Command Staff, attending trainings, reviewing and maintaining current literature, and understanding policies and procedures affecting the Florida Highway Patrol Office of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of general office procedures and basic filing practices.
Skill in Microsoft Office applications Word, Excel and Access.
Ability to @type letters, memoranda and other standard business forms in correct format using correct spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and efficient manner.
Ability to operate general office equipment.
Skill in communicating effectively, verbally and in writing.
Ability to prioritize, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with the following:
Researching and compiling data.
Responding to customer inquiries.
Preference will also be given to applicants who have obtained an Associate's degree or higher from an accredited college/university.
Job Related Requirements
The position you are applying is subject to a Level 2 background check, along with Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance, to include a fingerprint-based check of the criminal records of the FBI, as a condition of employment pursuant to Chapter 110.1127, 435 and 943, Florida Statutes. Please note that, since this position requires CJIS clearance, the Department will have access to all an applicant's criminal and juvenile delinquency records, even those that have been sealed or expunged.
High School Diploma.
The incumbent in this position spends time sitting and standing and uses his or her hands to @type and handle office equipment. Position requires lifting boxes up to 30 lbs.
General Information
The elements of the selection process may include a skill assessment and/or oral interview.
Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI. Fingerprints and associated information/biometrics will be retained in the FBI's Next Generation Identification (NGI) system and fingerprints may continue to be compared against fingerprints submitted to or retained by NGI.
FLHSMV employees are paid once a month on the last workday of each month. All state employees are required to participate in the direct deposit program pursuant to s. 110.113 Florida Statutes.
