Job Title: Electrical Superintendent
Job Description
The Electrical Superintendent oversees all field electrical and instrumentation construction activities for assigned projects, ensuring safe, high-quality, and efficient execution in accordance with project specifications, codes, and company standards. This role provides overall supervision of construction efforts, including safety, productivity, materials and equipment usage, scheduling, subcontractor performance, and contractual compliance. The Electrical Superintendent collaborates closely with project management, client representatives, engineers, and subcontractors to deliver projects on time, within scope, and in full compliance with technical and safety requirements.
Responsibilities
Oversee all electrical and instrumentation project work activities, including raceway, cable tray, electrical panels, ductbank, grounding, switchgear, transformers, low and medium voltage electrical equipment, wiring, motors, heat tracing, instrumentation, instrumentation calibrations, loop checks, point-to-point checks, and electrical and control testing.
Provide overall supervision of the construction effort, focusing on safety, craft productivity, efficient use of materials and equipment, materials management, scheduling, engineering coordination, and contractual performance.
Ensure subcontractor contractual compliance on all designated electrical construction-related activities.
Build and maintain effective relationships with clients and subcontractors, and interface professionally with client representatives, architect/engineer representatives, and other contractors.
Collaborate with project management to develop and implement project procedures, working documents, and standards that support successful project delivery.
Authorize purchase requisitions, field design change requests, and similar project-related documents under the supervision of the Construction Manager and Project Manager.
Take primary responsibility for project safety by reviewing and auditing site-specific safety documentation, including Pre-Task Analysis (PTAs) and Task Safety Observations (TSOs) on a regular basis.
Provide oversight of electrical and instrumentation installation, conduct and document related tests, and oversee the calibration of instruments.
Complete detailed daily field reports and capture daily photographs to document construction progress and field conditions.
Assess upcoming work activities using subcontractors' three-week look-ahead reports and identify concerns or constraints in work plans, communicating and resolving issues proactively.
Develop marked-up and as-built drawings to support the production of record set documents, and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) with assistance from the Assistant Project Manager or Field Engineer.
Direct and manage subcontractors to maintain compliance with the established project schedule, and track and verify progress based on installed quantities and work hours.
Verify that material deliveries meet project specifications, are stored properly, and receive required preventive maintenance and/or temporary heating, coordinating with the Materials Manager as needed.
Coordinate with the QA/QC Manager to verify that all welders on site are properly qualified to perform welding on the project.
Witness all equipment setting and alignment to ensure proper installation and compliance with specifications.
Walk down all systems before, during, and after hydrostatic testing to verify compliance with drawings and specifications, and sign off on completed system testing and restoration.
Develop and maintain punch lists of items that are incomplete or out of compliance, and drive resolution of these items.
Verify that the most current drawing revisions are in use in the field and ensure outdated drawings are removed from circulation.
Understand the full project scope and any changes that develop, ensuring that field change orders are properly executed and documented.
Oversee craft supervision and project staffing levels to meet project demands and maintain safe, productive operations.
Provide oversight of project site material and tool management to support efficient field operations.
Take responsibility for the daily field construction of the project in accordance with approved policies, procedures, systems, and requirements.
Supervise and direct the daily physical construction efforts through coordination of all field activities, subcontractor direction, and enforcement of code and specification compliance.
Read, interpret, and understand isometric drawings, structural drawings, and P&IDs to guide installation and verify compliance.
Perform other related duties as assigned to support successful project execution.
Comply with all company policies and standards in all aspects of work.
Essential Skills
Extensive experience in electrical construction, including oversight of raceway, cable tray, electrical panels, ductbank, grounding, switchgear, transformers, low and medium voltage electrical equipment, wiring, motors, heat tracing, instrumentation, and related testing and commissioning activities.
Proven ability to supervise field construction efforts, including safety oversight, productivity management, materials and equipment usage, scheduling, and subcontractor coordination.
Strong experience in construction safety, including the ability to review and audit safety documentation such as Pre-Task Analysis (PTAs) and Task Safety Observations (TSOs).
Ability to read, interpret, and understand isometric drawings, structural drawings, and P&IDs.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, subcontractors, engineers, and internal project teams.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct and motivate craft supervision and field personnel.
Bachelor's degree and 7 years of construction management or craft supervision experience on electrical projects, or
Associate degree and 9 years of construction management or craft supervision experience on electrical projects, or
High School Diploma/GED and 11 years of construction management or craft supervision experience on electrical projects.
Demonstrated ability to manage subcontractor performance, enforce contractual compliance, and maintain project schedules.
Proficiency with Microsoft Suite for documentation, reporting, and communication.
Ability to meet company driving requirements for travel to and from project sites.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience collaborating with project management to develop and implement project procedures, working documents, and standards.
Experience authorizing purchase requisitions and field design change requests under appropriate supervision.
Familiarity with materials management practices, including verification of deliveries, storage requirements, and preventive maintenance or temporary heating needs.
Experience coordinating with QA/QC personnel to verify qualifications of welders and compliance with quality standards.
Ability to develop and maintain as-built drawings and support the creation of record set documents.
Experience developing, managing, and closing punch lists for incomplete or non-compliant work items.
Proven capability to track and verify progress based on installed quantities and work hours.
Strong organizational skills, including the ability to complete detailed daily field reports and maintain photographic documentation of progress.
Ability to adapt to changing project scopes and execute field change orders effectively.
Commitment to complying with company policies, standards, and procedures in all aspects of project execution.
Work Environment
This role is primarily site-based in an active construction environment, overseeing daily field activities for electrical and instrumentation work. The Electrical Superintendent works closely with craft personnel, subcontractors, project management, and quality and safety teams in a fast-paced setting that requires frequent site walks, equipment witnessing, and system walk-downs before, during, and after testing. The position involves regular use of Microsoft Suite for reporting, documentation, and communication, as well as daily preparation of field reports and photographic records. Work hours align with typical construction schedules and may require flexibility to address project needs, coordinate testing, and meet critical milestones. The environment emphasizes strict adherence to safety practices, codes, and specifications, with a strong focus on documentation, quality, and collaboration across all project stakeholders.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $65.00/hr.
