Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer
Job Description
This role provides hands-on manufacturing engineering leadership for new model development programs, with a strong focus on tooling, assembly processes, and launch readiness in an automotive assembly environment. You will lead tooling implementation and commissioning, drive issue resolution for mechanical and electrical systems, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to improve quality, cost, and labor efficiency throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Provide manufacturing engineering leadership throughout new model development programs, from early planning through launch and stabilization.
Implement new or modified tooling and facilities based on product and process changes, ensuring alignment with manufacturing requirements.
Lead manufacturing assembly builds at U.S. assembly plants, coordinating activities and providing on-site engineering support.
Lead the identification, resolution, and closure of all launch, product, and tooling-related issues, using structured problem-solving methods.
Interface with cross-functional teams, including product development, quality, material planning and logistics, and other stakeholders, to ensure manufacturing readiness.
Write clear and detailed scope of work documents for tooling and facility changes as required for new or updated processes.
Lead assembly tooling installation, start-up, and commissioning at the assembly site, ensuring successful buyoff and handover to operations.
Prepare and deliver management presentations that summarize program status, risks, issues, and recommendations.
Lead issue resolution and reporting for mechanical and electrical systems during build events and launch activities.
Drive continuous improvement in quality, cost, and labor efficiency through process optimization, tooling enhancements, and best-practice implementation.
Develop, review, and update tooling changes and process sheets to reflect current manufacturing methods and standards.
Support product launch activities and coordinate issue resolution efforts with internal teams and external partners, including Tier 1 suppliers.
Apply root cause failure analysis and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) methodologies to address recurring issues and prevent reoccurrence.
Support commissioning and buyoff activities at sister plants as needed, sharing best practices and lessons learned across sites.
Essential Skills
Manufacturing engineering experience with a focus on assembly operations.
Minimum 2+ years of automotive and/or relevant manufacturing engineering experience.
Minimum 2+ years of experience with tooling, manufacturing processes, and facilities.
Minimum 2+ years of CAD experience, primarily for design reviews.
Hands-on experience with tooling changes and development of process sheets.
Strong root cause failure analysis skills and experience applying CAPA methodologies.
Understanding of PFMEA and failure mode avoidance principles.
Ability to lead tooling installation, start-up, commissioning, and buyoff activities at assembly sites.
Experience driving process improvement initiatives related to quality, cost, and labor.
Ability to prepare and deliver clear management presentations and technical updates.
Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, including working with product development, quality, and logistics teams.
Bachelor's degree or a combination of equivalent experience and education.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working in an assembly plant environment, ideally within the automotive industry.
Openness to candidates from other industries with strong root cause analysis and CAPA experience.
Statistical knowledge, including use of control charts and data collection for process monitoring.
Experience with error proofing concepts and implementation in manufacturing processes.
Demonstrated capability in product launch support and issue resolution.
Previous project management experience, including planning, tracking, and reporting.
Experience collaborating with Tier 1 OEM suppliers and partners.
Familiarity with commissioning and buyoff processes at manufacturing plants.
Work Environment
This position is 100% on site at an automotive assembly plant in Ohio, providing direct support during build events and launch activities. You will work in a dynamic, production-focused environment that involves frequent interaction with the shop floor, tooling, and assembly operations. The role may require occasional, though infrequent, travel to sister plants in Kentucky and Michigan for shadowing other build events and supporting buyoff activities. The plant is growing and will introduce new programs in the coming years, offering exposure to a wide range of technologies, processes, and professional development opportunities within a major OEM setting.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
