The Senior Finance Consultant - GICS (Global Infrastructure and Cloud Services) partners with Optum Technology Infrastructure leaders to provide strategic financial support across enterprise infrastructure services, including data centers, cloud platforms, networks, compute, storage, and resiliency operations.
This role focuses on run the business financial management, cost transparency, and investment governance to ensure infrastructure spend is well understood, optimized, and aligned to Optum Technology operational and reliability objectives. The consultant acts as a trusted advisor, translating complex financial and usage data into actionable insights for Infrastructure and Platform leaders.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
Strategic Finance Partnership
Serve as the primary finance partner to Infrastructure Operations leadership (e.g. Data Center, Network, Platform, Reliability)
Support operational decision making by connecting infrastructure performance, demand, and cost drivers
Provide financial perspectives to support resiliency, capacity, modernization, and lifecycle decisions
Financial Planning, Forecasting & Outlook
Lead annual budget, forecast, and outlook processes for GICS, including:
On prem hosting costs
Hardware lifecycle and depreciation
Vendor and managed service spend
Labor and contract resources
Clearly articulate forecast drivers, risks, and mitigation strategies to senior leaders
Support long range infrastructure planning aligned to Optum Tech strategy and roadmaps
Cost Transparency & Optimization
Drive visibility into infrastructure run costs, including fixed vs. variable components
Partner with technical leaders to:
Improve cost predictability
Identify efficiency and optimization opportunities
Evaluate tradeoffs between cost, performance, and reliability
Support allocation, show back, or chargeback methodologies as applicable
Infrastructure Investment & ROI Analysis
Develop financial analysis and business cases for:
Cloud migrations and optimization initiatives
Data center exit / consolidation efforts
Resiliency, capacity, and performance investments
Perform scenario modeling, ROI, and cost benefit analysis to support investment prioritization
Support capital vs. expense tradeoff evaluations
Operational & Performance Analytics
Build and maintain reporting that links financials with operational metrics, such as utilization, capacity, demand growth, and service reliability
Enable leadership discussions by synthesizing complex data into clear, executive ready insights
Support governance forums with timely and accurate financial perspectives
Governance, Controls & Process Improvement
Ensure disciplined financial management aligned with Optum and UHG policies
Support infrastructure investment governance, intake, and prioritization processes
Identify opportunities to streamline finance processes, reporting, and tools supporting Infra Ops
Collaboration & Leadership
Partner closely with Enterprise Finance, Technology Finance peers, and Infrastructure stakeholders
Mentor and provide guidance to junior finance partners
Communicate effectively with highly technical leaders, bridging finance and infrastructure perspectives

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
5+ years of experience in finance, FP&A, consulting, or business partnering roles
Solid experience with forecasting, variance analysis, and financial modeling
Advanced Excel and financial reporting skills; enterprise financial systems experience
Proven ability to partner with Technology and Infrastructure leaders
Demonstrated communication skills with experience presenting to senior leadership
Preferred Qualifications:
MBA or advanced degree
CPA, CFA, or equivalent certification
Experience supporting Infrastructure, Cloud, Platform, or IT Operations organizations
Experience in large, matrixed, or regulated enterprises
Familiarity with cloud economics, infrastructure cost drivers, or capacity management concepts

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
