Description We are looking for a Staff or Senior Accountant to join an apparel company in Long Beach, California in a contract capacity with the potential to become permanent. This onsite role is well suited for an accounting specialist with strong general ledger expertise who is comfortable supporting month-end close and maintaining accurate financial records in a consumer products or retail environment. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with the Controller while contributing to core accounting operations and reserve analysis.

Responsibilities:

Manage general ledger activity, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly close tasks to support timely and accurate financial reporting.

Maintain accounting for prepaid expenses, fixed assets, depreciation schedules, and routine accruals in accordance with company policy and GAAP standards.

Review and support tax-related filings such as sales and use tax documentation and property tax reporting for completeness and accuracy.

Prepare and analyze accounting reserves, including commissions and product returns, to ensure appropriate financial statement treatment.

Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies across key accounts.

Partner with the Controller to support ongoing accounting operations and strengthen reporting accuracy within the finance function.

Contribute accounting insight within an apparel, retail, or consumer products setting, applying industry-relevant knowledge to daily financial activities. Requirements - 5+ years of accounting experience, with consideration for either Staff Accountant or Senior Accountant level based on depth of expertise.

Strong background in general ledger accounting and month-end close processes.

Hands-on experience with prepaid expenses, fixed assets, depreciation, and accrual accounting.

Familiarity with GAAP and the ability to prepare accurate journal entries and reconciliations.

Experience using Oracle or a comparable enterprise accounting system.

Industry experience in apparel, retail, consumer products, or a similar environment is strongly preferred.

Knowledge of bank reconciliations, reserve accounting, and tax-related reporting is preferred.
