Join the Health Regulation Division as a State Triage Specialist and play a key role in protecting vulnerable Minnesotans. In this position, you will gather, analyze, and assess complaints and incidents involving maltreatment, compliance concerns, and violations across state- and federally licensed health care facilities, as well as all other licensees regulated by the Health Regulation Division (HRD).
The Health Regulation Division of the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is dedicated to protecting the health and safety of Minnesotans by ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. As a State Triage Specialist, you will conduct detailed preliminary investigations, support investigative decision-making, and evaluate reports to determine priority and appropriate disposition, ensuring outcomes that are timely, consistent, and legally sound.
This work is performed under the Minnesota Vulnerable Adults Act and requires adherence to strict statutory timelines, along with the ability to independently interpret and apply complex legal and regulatory frameworks.

Primary Duties include:
Gather, analyze, and assess information on complaints and incidents involving maltreatment, compliance issues, and violations in licensed health care facilities and other regulated licensees.
Ensure timely investigation and response to reports of violations or maltreatment, following statutory timelines under the Minnesota Vulnerable Adults Act.
Monitor and evaluate compliance with state and federal laws and regulations designed to protect Minnesotans' health and safety.
Clearly document case findings, decisions, and rationale in multiple databases, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Utilize multiple data systems and research tools to review provider history and support informed decision-making.
In accordance with HR/LR Policy #1422 Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) , this position is a full-time telework position, allowing you to work from your home office for applicants who live in Minnesota or in a bordering state within 50 miles of the assigned work location. The District Office locations are based in: St. Paul, St. Cloud, Duluth, Rochester, Marshall, Bemidji, Fergus Falls, and Mankato. Candidates residing outside of Minnesota or in a bordering state within 50 miles of the assigned work location at the time of application must be able to relocate to Minnesota within 30days of their start date.
MDH relies heavily on grant funding, in addition to state appropriated dollars. As an agency, we continually monitor funding levels and navigate some degree of uncertainty to grant cycles and the impact of the grant funding on program priorities. This position is currently funded and approved to be filled. While the position is funded, at this time, future funding is dependent on the continuation of our funding sources. The Minnesota Department of Healthworks proactively to sustain programs and maintain our workforce, to avoid reductions in force to the very best of our ability. In the event of a loss of funding resulting Ina necessary workforce reduction, that process is governed by our collective bargaining agreements and compensation plans.
Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of experience in a Nursing, Health Care Administration, Social Work, or a related field :
Experience navigating and managing multiple data bases or case management systems.
Experience working within healthcare regulatory agencies, licensing boards, or compliance enforcement.
Qualifications to assessed during the interview process:
Ability to communicate concepts, ideas, and information clearly and concisely, including explaining triage decision-making processes effectively to members of the public, even those who may be distraught or demanding.
Knowledge of state and federal healthcare regulations, licensing requirements, and investigative procedures, demonstrated through formal education or professional experience.
A degree in the medical field or closely related area may substitute for experience as follows:
Doctorate degree: 24 months
Master's degree: 18 months
Bachelor's degree: 12 months
Associate degree: 6 months
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing, Health Care Administration, Social Work, or a related field.
Experience working within healthcare regulatory agencies, licensing boards, or compliance enforcement.
Prior experience in crisis or emergency response situations involving vulnerable populations.
Clinical and/or management experience in assisted living facilities and/or home care.
Thorough knowledge of healthcare delivery systems, rules and regulations.
