Summary This position is located at a Department of Veterans Affairs facility. The employee performs a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of the buildings, grounds and related structures, fixtures, and utilities. The duties are performed with multiple trades. This position performs work associated with the following trades: Sheet Metal, Mechanic, Welder, Machinist, and Medical Equipment Repairman. Responsibilities Major duties of this position include but are not limited to: Welding: layout and fabricate various @types of metal stock, various pieces of equipment to specifications performing cutting, welding and brazing (either electrical or gas).; Silver and soft soldering. Machinist Work: manufacture and repair parts of equipment; laying out the job, planning for and setting up the work in the machine, selecting appropriate metal cutting tools, operating various @types of standard machine tools, and performing precision handwork to fit, finish and assemble machined parts and equipment. General Mechanic Work: repair and/or replace all @types of machinery found in the hospital environment; operation and maintenance of the central vacuum and oxygen systems, the laundry equipment, kitchen equipment, sterilizers throughout the hospital and repair of air compressors; assists with steam fitting other pipe fitting as needed; repairs and maintains golf carts side by sides and other equipment with small engines. Medical Equipment Repair: assists in the maintenance of various @types of medical equipment found in the hospital environment; assists in the performance of the hospital preventative maintenance program; Assisting other craftsmen, and in their absence or when specifically assigned, in performing repairs on other equipment and systems throughout the medical center as directed by the supervisor. Physical Effort The work requires a considerable amount of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Carries lifts and handles parts weighing up to 50 lbs. Working Conditions The work is performed inside and outside with exposure to all kinds of weather. The work area may be hot, cold, loud, dirty, wet, dusty, and greasy.
