Job Title: Telehealth Oncology Registered Nurse
Job Description
This telehealth oncology nursing role focuses on counseling and educating oncology patients on specialty drug therapies via phone, with no direct patient care or home visits. You provide evidence-based education, support treatment adherence, and ensure safe and compliant care by following contracted and accrediting regulations. You document all interactions thoroughly in an electronic medical record (EMR) system and collaborate with regulatory bodies when needed to report adverse events and product complaints.
Responsibilities
Counsel and educate new and existing oncology patients on specialty drug therapies via inbound and outbound phone calls.
Explain treatment plans, medication regimens, and expected outcomes in clear and compassionate language to support patient understanding and engagement.
Discuss potential and current side effects with patients, provide education about treatment alternatives, and facilitate ongoing therapy adherence.
Use motivational interviewing techniques, when applicable, to support behavior change and improve adherence to prescribed therapies.
Adhere to all contracted and accrediting regulations as indicated by drug specifications and applicable standards.
Complete thorough, accurate, and timely documentation of all patient interactions using good documentation practices in the EMR.
Ensure documentation complies with industry standards, professional practice guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
Identify and report adverse events and product complaints to the appropriate manufacturer, the FDA, and other governing authorities as required.
Collaborate with internal clinical and support teams to address patient concerns, escalate issues appropriately, and maintain continuity of care.
Review and interpret relevant practice standards, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations to maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge.
Apply triage and acute care experience to assess patient concerns over the phone and determine appropriate next steps or referrals.
Utilize strong computer skills to navigate email, word processing, spreadsheets, web-based programs, and EMR systems efficiently.
Maintain high standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and patient advocacy in all interactions.
Contribute to a positive patient experience by providing empathetic, respectful, and culturally sensitive telehealth support.
Essential Skills
Registered Nurse with a current, unrestricted multi-state compact state license, including North Carolina eligibility.
Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience.
At least 1 year of acute, inpatient care experience preferred.
Oncology and/or hematology nursing experience preferred.
Experience in telehealth, triage, acute care, or oncology nursing.
Strong patient education skills, with the ability to explain complex clinical information clearly over the phone.
Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) and good documentation practices.
Strong computer skills, including email, word processing, spreadsheet, and web-based applications.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret practice standards, professional journals, technical procedures, and government standards and regulations.
Knowledge of utilization management principles is beneficial for supporting appropriate use of specialty therapies.
Ability to identify and appropriately report adverse events and product complaints to regulatory authorities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Oncology and/or hematology clinical experience in an inpatient or outpatient setting is highly desirable.
Experience in telehealth or remote patient support environments.
in utilization management or case management is advantageous.
Experience with motivational interviewing techniques to support patient adherence and behavior change.
Comfort working with specialty drug therapies and related regulatory requirements.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to manage documentation and reporting requirements.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with oncology practice standards and regulations.
Work Environment
This is an onsite telehealth nursing position in a professional clinical office setting, focused on phone-based patient interactions rather than direct hands-on care. The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with occasional Saturday shifts on a quarterly rotation that may be worked remotely. You will use computers, electronic medical record systems, email, and other web-based tools throughout the day to document care and communicate with patients and team members. The environment supports a large healthcare organization dedicated to patient care and access, with a structured schedule and clear regulatory and documentation standards.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $41.00 - $41.00/hr.
